Behavioral Health Response (BHR) has deployed 40 clinicians across St. Louis with many of them in north city, helping reduce people's mental health challenges.
Lawmakers this year included the $7 million in the budget, passed before the General Assembly adjourned May 16. Gov. Mike Kehoe has until June 30 to sign it.
The City Justice Center opened in 2002. Since then, 45 people have died in custody, including 29 who were pronounced dead after being transported to area hospitals.
Officers said the shooting happened at about 5 p.m. after two women got into an argument outside a barber shop at North 20th Street and North Florissant Avenue.
So far, the center has served thousands of meals, and plans to distribute at least 500 more each day through Friday. But this vital work depends on volunteers.
