The "medical genius," as police called him, was a civilian who cared for the officers of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. He died in 2012.
Kenneth Gregory is the first-ever Black St. Louis County police chief. The department is still battling a racial discrimination lawsuit over the chief position.

In 2016, Sgt. Tom Lake was shot in the face while working an overtime shift. Now, his Project HURT offers services for first responders in tough times.
