Typos, it's sad to say, are as common in campaign literature as they are in journalism. Find us a guy running for public office, and it's almost certain a pubic office isn't far behind. But the campaign literature of Alderman Joe Vaccaro, now running for reelection in the city's 4th ward, is in a class of its own.
One of St. Louis' least problematic exports, Jon Hamm, will be gracing people's screens during the Super Bowl this Sunday in a Hellman's ad where he's trapped inside Pete Davidson's refrigerator. Hamm appears with Brie Larson and a large jar of Hellman's. Why are they there?
Owners of a building in the Near North Riverfront neighborhood that partially collapsed this morning had been waiting since December for a demolition permit to get approved. Individuals on the scene at the intersection of Tyler and North 10th streets this morning said that high winds likely caused the cave-in on the west side of the abandoned building that faces Interstate 70. An individual familiar with the building's ownership said that last year he came into the building and found "the roof was on the floor."

Cameron Punjani never had any particular interest in listening to true crime podcasts or watching true crime documentaries, much less scrolling through #truecrime social media posts. But a little over a year ago her own father disappeared and, disappointed with what she saw as police's lax attitude toward the case, she took to TikTok to try to stop her dad's story from being forgotten. "I'm just not OK with not having the answers," Cameron says.
Republicans in the state legislature are attempting to strip power from St. Louis's Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner, saying that she can't get a handle on crime in the city, but these same legislators are simultaneously doing everything they can to make violent crime an even more intractable problem in the city. That was the gist of a three minute TikTok video put out by state Representative Peter Merideth (D-St. Louis), who described himself as pretty upset after Republicans in the house passed a bill that would take away Gardner's ability to prosecute violent crime in St. Louis and instead grant that authority to a special prosecutor appointed by the governor.
In early 2021, I started driving Uber for social interaction. I had a company car, and my employer paid for my gas. I'd been driving for about two weeks when around 7 a.m. one day in south city a kid jumped into my car.
Every day, a cartoon bird appears on the front page of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch doing something different –– swinging a bat, commenting on national politics, flying a helicopter. Well, we don’t really need to explain, because if you’re from St. Louis, you’ll know what we’re talking about.
Brandi Artis describes her restaurant, Simply Delicious (1115 Pine Street, 314-802-7287), as a reflection of her on a plate. If you take the Bougie Breakfast Sammy as a point of reference, this means Artis is a complex, multi-layered delight who brings joy to anyone who encounters her. The sandwich — a master class of sweet and savory — begins with two butter-soaked slices of griddled sourdough bread that are slathered with fig jam and stacked with slices of thick bacon.

The beloved St. Louis Hills café and market will close after seven years of making the neighborhood impossibly delicious and drawing in foodies from across the area. Chef/owner Matt Borchardt announced the closure today on Facebook, writing that it’s a bittersweet moment in his career as he closes one chapter in his life and opens another.
An arrest warrant was issued today for a St. Louis Hills woman who went viral for her racist harassment of a Latino family living in south city — including banging a hammer against their door. Yesterday, the Post-Dispatch chronicled the harassment that Fatima Suarez's parents faced at their Princeton Heights home. A doorbell camera at the home captured video of 54-year-old Judy Kline banging on the door.
Late last month an outreach representative from Democratic Congresswoman Cori Bush's office was let go from her job a few days after getting into a confrontation with the mayor of Jennings. Aja Owens, 41, says that she was fired on January 27. Four days prior, Owens was filmed yelling at Mayor Yolanda Austin at a Jennings City Council meeting.
U.S. Representative Cori Bush (D-St. Louis) did not say a word at tonight's State of Union, but she still spoke volumes. Her guest to the State of the Union address was Michael Brown Senior, the father of Michael Brown, the unarmed Black teenager who was killed by a white police officer in Ferguson in 2014. The incident was the impetus for Bush's involvement in activism as she pointed out in a tweet yesterday.
