Monkeypox vaccines are headed to  the St. Louis area. Along with a plan to expand “eligibility for vaccination based on recent increased transmission of the virus in the region,” state and regional health officials have announced that St. Louis County Department of Health will serve as the St. Louis region’s hub for monkeypox vaccination. A press release from the county’s department of health detailed that the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has distributed 1,900 vials of monkeypox vaccine to the department for use within the region.

Kansas-based attorney Juliane Colby was sentenced to 13 months in prison on Tuesday for smuggling heroin to an inmate incarcerated at the Western Missouri Correctional Center in Cameron. The inmate and attorney had been a years-long romantic relationship. Colby was indicted in March 2021 on four federal charges related to the attempted smuggling, including one count of conspiracy to distribute heroin and another count of attempted distribution of heroin.

The area saw its second wettest July since 1874, according to data from Applied Climate Information System. The city saw 12.22 inches of precipitation, which is 311 percent higher than the normal amount.

Man Dies in St. Louis City Jail Custody

A man died yesterday afternoon at the St. Louis City Justice Center after fellow detainees found him unresponsive in his cell. St. Louis City Commissioner of Corrections Jennifer Clemons-Abdullah said in a statement that staff called 911 at 3:47 p.m. The detainee was taken to a local hospital and passed away at 4:38 p.m.
