State of Emergency in St. Louis City, County Due to Extreme Flooding

St. Louis officials have signed executive orders declaring states of emergency as a record amount of rainfall displaces residents and closes roadways. St. Louis County Executive Sam Page and St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones signed executive orders Tuesday that will enable the state of Missouri to request federal support. “Communities throughout our region were devastated by last night’s record rainfall and flooding,” Jones said in a statement.

St. Louis Extends Ban On Downtown Scooters

Downtown St. Louis will not be seeing electric scooters strewn across the sidewalks anytime soon. The city banned scooters in the downtown and Downtown West neighborhoods earlier this summer after a string of public safety incidents, including an incident where two teen girls were shot in their thighs in early June. The city announced this afternoon that the ban will stay in place until the end of 2022.

St. Louis County Auditor Allegedly Tried to Give Herself a Raise

St. Louis County Councilman Ernie Trakas (R-Mehlville) is making serious allegations about St. Louis County Auditor Toni Jackson. In a letter to Council Chair Rita Heard Days, Trakas accuses Jackson of "unilaterally" increasing her own salary without council permission. He also says she has failed to disclose outside clients, despite his requests.

Eric Schmitt Filmed Ad at Kirkwood Restaurant Without Permission

A Kirkwood breakfast and lunch mainstay is speaking out on social media this morning after what they say was Senate candidate Eric Schmitt's unauthorized use of their business in a campaign commercial. Spencer's Grill, which has been in the heart of downtown Kirkwood for 75 years, appears briefly in two shots in a spot for Schmitt which debuted last March but is still being seen by Missourians on TV in the final week before the primary. In one shot, as Schmitt says in his narration, "God created this wonderful country which has provided so much for so many," he is seen shaking the hand of a man wearing a Spencer's Grill T-shirt standing behind the diner's cash register.

St. Louis Area Police, Officials Keep Getting Busted for Boozing

This summer has seen more than its fair share of top St. Louis–area law enforcement officials doing things they shouldn't do whilst blitzed. The Post-Dispatch reported this morning that Sunset Hills police Chief Stephen Dodge was arrested in June in the Lake of the Ozarks for boating while intoxicated. A Missouri Highway Patrol water patrol officer stopped Dodge while he was operating his boat in an area of the lake in Camden County.

The record-breaking rainfall last night has not only affected homes in the St. Louis area, but also flooded the shelters protecting our furry friends as well. Gateway Pet Guardians took to social media early this morning, pleading for help getting the dogs and cats out of the standing water and into a foster home while the shelter is flooded. “Our shelter is currently full,” the nonprofit wrote on Facebook.

When she returned to the states, Shourd found that solitary confinement was — and still is — endemic in the U.S. She set about trying to bring it to an end by writing and producing The BOX, which debuted in 2016.
