A Missouri woman who made national news for robbing banks twice in her 70s and who earlier this week missed a court date for her most recent robbery may have had good reason for her no-show: She appears to be dead. Branson Determined to Become More Boring, Passes Drag Show Limits

1 year 3 months ago
In a move to make the tourist spot even more boring than it's already become, Branson's governing body voted to restrict drag shows last night. The Branson Board of Aldermen voted 3-2 to limit drag shows to a certain part of town where the "obscene" performances would not disturb residential life. The board has yet to take a final vote on the matter, but if it passes, drag shows would only be allowed in Branson's downtown district, an area contains the city's least amount of commercial land, Missouri Independent reports. In a fact sheet of the measure, city staff explained the downtown district was created for "adult entertainment" and was a place where people could reasonably expect to encounter "cultural institutions."

Crepes and Treats Delivers Mouthwatering Sweet and Savory Fare

1 year 3 months ago
We would likely not be discussing Saul Juarez's delightful Cherokee Street cafe, Crepes and Treats (2752 Cherokee Street, 314-354-8098), were it not for a high school cooking instructor who refused to take no for an answer when Juarez tried to drop her class. It wasn't because he lacked interest — quite the contrary.

Schnucks may owe you money if you bought alcohol from its stores in the past seven years. The grocery chain will pay up to $4 million  after a class-action settlement alleged Schnucks falsely advertised sales on wine and spirits when the products had not been sold at the advertised "regular" or "original" prices in a very long time, or ever. Appeals Court Halts Missouri Execution of Johnny Johnson

1 year 3 months ago
A St. Louis man scheduled to die next Tuesday received a last-minute stay of execution yesterday — with the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals saying the state of Missouri cannot yet proceed with the execution of Johnny Johnson. Johnson was sentenced to death in 2005 for the murder of six-year-old Casey Williamson in suburban Valley Park. In their petition for relief filed June 30, Johnson's attorneys state the case simply: "Because Mr. Johnson does not rationally understand the reason for his execution and believes Satan is using the State of Missouri to execute him to bring about the end of the world, which the voice of Satan has confirmed to him, he is not competent to be executed and carrying out the execution would violate the Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution."

Meet the Micronationalists Inventing New Nations in St. Louis — and Beyond

1 year 3 months ago
The MicroCon convention commenced last month at a Holiday Inn in Joliet, Illinois, a perfectly adequate place for people from all over America to gather for an event featuring speeches, diplomacy, athletics and a bit of dining and dancing. In some respects, it looked like any other convention at any other hotel — at least for the first minute, or two.

Some people have been saying that it’s hotter than Satan’s butthole out there, (it’s us, we’ve been saying it) and it seems like it’s just going to get worse in the coming days. After topping out at 96 degrees yesterday, the temperatures are set to just climb higher and higher each day for the next few days.

Alicia Keys Brought Her Fire to Enterprise Center

1 year 3 months ago
I suppose the go-to music critic's cliché would be to declare that when it came to the Alicia Keys concert at Enterprise on Friday that this girl is on fire. However, I’m holding off since Keys’ show was as defined by intimate gestures, songful recitations and intimate connections with the audience as by musical combustion, vocal infernos and stagecraft conflagrations.
