Firefighters battled heat while fighting massive flames Wednesday night into Thursday morning at a former church in north St. Louis.  St. Liborius Church, located at 1850 Hogan St., is a historic landmark. Canadian wildfire smoke has reached near the surface across much of northern Illinois Tuesday afternoon.  An air quality alert is in effect for the metro St. Louis area and all of Illinois through Wednesday evening.
