Becky Rothman, the "Queen of Carpet" whose iconic commercials featuring her flying on a rug over the Gateway Arch entertained generations of St. Louisians for nearly 30 years, died Sunday. She was 67. Rothman's nephew, Marc, confirmed her passing Monday afternoon. She had been undergoing dialysis for the past several years, he said, and died at Missouri Baptist Medical Center of complications from kidney disease. The new St. Louis Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore was sworn into office Tuesday morning, just two weeks after his predecessor Kim Gardner stepped down. County executive vetoes bills on tobacco sales near schools, pedestrians on roadways

St. Louis County Executive Sam Page announced in a press conference Tuesday that he will veto two bills passed by the County Council earlier this month. Bill 73 would have loosened restrictions on tobacco sales within 1,000 feet of St. Louis County schools, and Bill 86 would have required pedestrians to stay off roads in areas where sidewalks are available.
