Lutheran Development Group Tackles Another Challenging Corner

Dutchtown-based developer Lutheran Development Group is always up for a challenge. At the tail end of 2021, LDG and their co-developer Rise Community Development announced that they had secured funds for the Marquette Homes project, adding 60 affordable apartments across 14 severely deteriorated buildings and vacant lots in Dutchtown and Gravois Park. Prior to that, this partnership resuscitated 15 buildings in the neighborhood with their Chippewa Park project. Now they’ve announced the acquisition and planned rehab of a long-troubled property at 3025 Chippewa Street.

Façade Improvement Grants for Dutchtown Businesses

Dutchtown Main Streets‘ Design Committee and the Dutchtown Community Improvement District want to help you spruce up your storefront! Businesses within the CID footprint can apply for grants of up to $500 $1,000 for physical improvements to their street-facing façades. Our businesses’ front doors are the gateways to Dutchtown for many visitors, and an attractive entrance attracts economic activity and shows off the character of our neighborhood.

Keep It Clean: Bringing Volunteers and Soccer Fans Together

On the morning of Saturday, October 23rd, neighborhood volunteers and soccer fans from all over the region will be tackling trash in Dutchtown. Afterward, fans will be treated to friendly pick-up games on the soccer field and futsal court at Marquette Park.

EDA Loans for City Businesses Affected by COVID-19

The U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded CARES Act funds to St. Louis Development Corporation (SLDC) to make loans to businesses that have been negatively affected by COVID-19 or that are providing goods or services addressing problems caused by the pandemic.

Futsal Comes to Marquette Park

An idea formed two years ago is finally being made real in Marquette Park. Soon the Dutchtown neighborhood will have the first outdoor futsal court in the City of St. Louis. Back in July of 2019, local soccer enthusiast Daniel Flynn, Dutchtown neighbor and UMOJA Soccer Club founder Fred Maboneza, and members of the Allies of Marquette Park group met at the Marquette Park Recreation Center.

From Abandoned Pay Phone to Free Little Library

Driving down South Grand through Dutchtown, you may have noticed the long-dormant pay phone stand in front of the hulking house at 4018 South Grand, just south of Merb’s Candies. With pay phones having gone nearly extinct, it certainly catches the eye of anyone who still remembers what a pay phone was.

Marquette Community Day 2021 Recap

The fourth annual Marquette Community Day was another huge success! Dutchtown neighbors, led by MCD founders Ben Robinson and Markus Haskins, gave out backpacks and school supplies for children in the Dutchtown neighborhood, along with sharing local community resources and providing a fun day out to create a unique, community-oriented celebration in Marquette Park.

Dutchtown’s New Neighborhood Beautification Service Program

The Dutchtown Community Improvement District and Dutchtown Main Streets are excited to announce the start of a new community-oriented Neighborhood Beautification Service Program in partnership with employer and training vendor Employment Connection. The program, funded by the Dutchtown CID, is designed to keep Dutchtown’s main thoroughfares clean while recirculating taxpayer money back into the community. Services are expected to start in August 2021.
