Cape Coast Castle, Ghana Tour Guide Visits STL

Come join the Griot Museum of Black History to welcome Mr. Kwesi Essel-Blankson, author of “Our Story: Cape Coast Castle & The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.” Visiting the United States of America from Ghana, he will sign his August 2024 released book. The book weaves historical data and current affairs to explain the dynamics of the trans-Atlantic slavery trade. He will also tell the story of the song “Amazing Grace” and invite the audience to sing in English while he sings a Ghanaian song to the same tune. Mr. Essel-Blankson has been a tour guide at the Cape Coast Castle for over 20 years, including for dignitaries, such as former President of the United States of America (POTUS), Barack Obama, and his family in 2009. St. Louis native Regina Dennis-Nana, a retired career foreign service officer, coordinated the President’s historic Cape Coast, Ghana visit on behalf of the US Embassy. This in-person event promises to be a memorable journey through the rich heritage of Ghana right here in St. Louis. Prepare to immerse yourself in music, dance, and cuisine from Ghana with fellow enthusiasts. Ghanaian traditional dishes, including “apra pran sah,” served only on festive occasions, will grace our buffet. Other dishes are Groundnut Stew, Ghana’s national dish served with fufu/kenke/banku, waayke (beans/rice), Ghana Jollof Rice, charcoal chicken and fish, and southern greens. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to explore and appreciate the beauty of Ghanaian culture!
The Griot Museum of Black History is partnering with the St. Louis Art Museum’s “Narrative Wisdom and African Arts Exhibit,” which will be on display until February 16, 2025, and the University of Missouri at St. Louis to welcome Mr. Essel-Blankson to St. Louis.
