Great Rivers Greenway and collaborative partners are celebrating the new St. Vincent Greenway expansion from Trojan Park to Robert Powell Place. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public. A parade will be held along the new greenway section starting at Robert L. Powell Place and continue for 0.5 miles to Trojan Park where children are welcome to play on the new playground. Community members will also enjoy a free concert by Dirty Muggs at 11 a.m.
The new section of the St. Vincent Greenway extends the existing greenway along Etzel Ave. toward its northern section in St. Vincent Park. This section connects community members to the Metropolitan Education and Training (MET) Center, STL Business Incubator @ Wellston and Wellston MetroLink Station.
As requested by the community, the project includes a small “pocket park” at Plymouth Ave. and Stephen Jones Ave. Included in the park is new solar lighting, a bike rack, a water fountain, and an emergency blue light tower. The project provided a deck and seating area at Engeholm Creek with a view of new native plantings along the bank. A MetroBus stop with improved seating was also added located near the MetroLink tracks along Plymouth Ave.
This expansion will eventually connect with the future St. Vincent Greenway connector through Pagedale to St. Charles Rock Road, slated to be built in 2024-2025.
