Step into the heart of Hispanic Heritage Month as we explore the dynamic tapestry of St. Louis’s Hispanic community.

Start your night at happy hour with food and drinks available for purchase from Padrinos and Sal y Limón. Enjoy a Mexican dance performance by Alma de Mexico St. Louis, see displays of local art and traditional clothing from Hispanic countries, and talk with St. Louis artist José Garza about his design for the new Hispanic Heritage Month flag. Explore the historians’ corner to see documents that illustrate Hispanic history in St. Louis, and talk with museum curators about how your family history can be part of the Missouri Historical Society Collections.

At 6:30pm, join us for a presentation about the complex relationships among Spain, Mexico, and St. Louis during the colonial period in the late 1700s as well as during the Mexican Revolution in the early 1900s. Next, Adam Flores of St. Louis Shakespeare will lead a conversation with leaders in the community to explore how Hispanic influences shape St. Louis today and the importance of intentionally contributing to our city’s evolving historical narrative.

The panel includes:

• Carmen Dence, president of Grupo Atlántico and commissioner for the Missouri History Museum Subdistrict
• Brian Muñoz, photojournalist and multimedia reporter at St. Louis Public Radio
• José Ponce, real estate entrepreneur and chair of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan St. Louis
• Dr. Gabriela Romero, chair of the foreign languages department at Lindenwood University
