March 6 - April 27
Tuesday-Saturday, 10a-5p and Sunday, 12-4p
Don't miss this incredibly moving exhibition by highly respected and talented glassblower Blaine Steiner of Nashville, TN. An MFA graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans, she received her masters in large-scale cast glass sculpture, but she found glass completely by accident. What she initially thought would be simply a ‘cool elective’ changed the entire course of her life.
Her most recent body of work, Rivers, began as an attempt to ground herself in the places that have impacted her the most. Having moved countless times throughout her life, she has always struggled to feel grounded, or to describe where she considers ‘home.’ In an attempt to better understand her relationship with the world, she started hand carving forms that represented rivers where she had lived. It has allowed her to confront the feelings of loss, nostalgia, and opportunity that often accompany relocating. Casting these forms in glass conveys the tenuous connection she feels with these places, while also emphasizing their preciousness to her.
Blaine has worked for several artists and studios across the country and has sculptures in private collections and on permanent public display. Currently part owner of Spees Studios in Nashville, she continues to develop her artistic practice and push the boundaries of glass sculpture.
Pieces will be available to purchase. The exhibition will be on display during both our March 20 and April 17 Third Friday events. Visit thirddegreeglass.com for more information.
