Sweet Smoke, Spice, and Sauce: St. Louis’s BBQ History and Culture

A look at St. Louis barbecue history, from vintage smoke shacks to the present day and the local and national rise in popularity of St. Louis–style barbecue. We’ll also look at the local competition circuit and get a few tips on what makes good barbecue great.

Details

Discovery Tours begin and end at the Missouri History Museum and run from 9am–3pm. All participants should meet at the Visitor Information desk on the Museum’s south (park) side by 8:45am.

Discovery Tour transportation will be provided by luxury motor coach; however, each tour will require at least a little walking. Please wear comfortable shoes and have a jacket handy. Bring your camera, too: These are journeys you’ll want to remember.

Rates

$80 per person for MHS members
$90 per person for non-members

The rate includes tour guide; motor coach transportation; all venue admissions, taxes, and gratuities; and refreshments (lunch, refillable water bottle, and snack).
