Veterans Day Commemoration with Mackey Mitchell Architects and Soldiers Memorial

This event will begin and end at Mackey Mitchell Architects (900 Spruce Street, #500, St. Louis, MO 63102) with a visit to Soldiers Memorial Military Museum (1315 Chestnut Street, St. Louis, MO 63013)

You’re invited to join Mackey Mitchell Architects for coffee and donuts in celebration of Veterans Day, November 11. Arrive and park for free at Mackey Mitchell Architects (900 Spruce Street, Suite 500, St. Louis, MO 63102). Enjoy complimentary coffee and donuts beginning at 9:00am while exploring a banner exhibition on the restoration of Soldiers Memorial Military Museum.

At 9:30am., Mark Sundlov, Managing Director of Soldiers Memorial, will lead a presentation on the museum’s history and enduring legacy. Following the presentation, guests will board a stress-free (and parking-free) shuttle to Soldiers Memorial for the annual French Society of St. Louis’s annual wreath-laying ceremony, held each year to remember and honor the more than 1,072 St. Louisans who made the ultimate sacrifice in World War I.

After the ceremony, guests are invited to visit Soldiers Memorial’s newest exhibition Two Minutes to Midnight and the Architecture of Armageddon before the shuttle returns to Mackey Mitchell Architects.

The connection between Mackey Mitchell Architects and Soldiers spans generations. The original Court of Honor, completed in the late 1940s, was designed by Eugene J. Mackey Jr. in collaboration with sculptor Hillis Arnold. Decades later, his son and firm founder, Eugene J. Mackey III, helped champion the effort to restore Soldiers Memorial, an effort that ultimately led to Mackey Mitchell Architects leading the $30 million renovation.

It’s fitting that these two St. Louis institutions come together once again to celebrate and honor our veterans on this meaningful day.

This event is free, but please register to reserve your shuttle seat—and to make sure we have enough coffee and donuts for everyone!
