Experience Story Collider Live in St. Louis on Wednesday

1 year 10 months ago
Story Collider's mission is to use storytelling to illuminate the role science plays in our lives. It's kind of like The Moth, only with science, or TED Talks, only without the insistence that one overly simplified idea from a polished speaker in a headset can change humanity.

Thank God for the pro-choice faith leaders of Missouri. More than a dozen clergy members of multiple faiths have stepped forward with a lawsuit challenging Missouri’s oppressive laws banning abortion. The case, a national initiative of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, seeks to send an essential message to those who oppose abortion:

The new event, a collaboration between the Riverfront Times and Molly's, promises dozens of "seasonal, limited-edition beers," winter-themed cocktails, live music, a "restaurant row" with food from local eateries, a vendor marketplace and fire pits. They're promising more than 100 different beers.

St. Louis Standards: The Pastrami at Carl’s Deli Is Legendary

1 year 10 months ago
Matt Lewis is proud of the deep relationships he's cultivated with his customers at Carl's Deli (6401 Clayton Road, 314-721-2392), first as a teenage employee and now as its owner. Sometimes, though, he has to laugh at how few boundaries there are between him and a few of his guests. "Some ladies come in, and it's funny because they tell me that I am getting gray," Lewis says.

Earthbound Beer Is Hosting Dolly Parton Trivia Tonight For Her Birthday

1 year 10 months ago
This is the special day each year that we pause and take a moment to celebrate our Lord and Savior, Dolly Parton. Her birthday is January 19 and this year we are celebrating the 77th anniversary of when “a rainbow arched down from heaven and touched a butterfly” and Dolly Parton was born. We’ve already spilled a lot of digital ink celebrating this human unicorn, but if you need a refresher to remember all of the reasons why this earth angel should be praised, we’d recommend reading our story from 2016 titled “Dolly Parton Is the Queen of Everything and the Glowing Center of the Universe.” That pretty much covers it all.

Clergy from various faiths filed a lawsuit in the St. Louis Circuit Court today arguing that Missourians have a right to exercise their freedom of religion — which includes abortion. The lawsuit is a slap against the Missouri legislature’s overall “explicit preference” for some religious beliefs about abortion over others.

Kairos' Plans for a High School in Marine Villa Collapse

1 year 10 months ago
A charter school's plans to build a new high school on a plot of land in south city's Marine Villa neighborhood have hit a major snag. Kairos Academies, which currently operates a charter school for fifth through ninth graders at Wisconsin Avenue and Potomac Street, had previously announced plans to build a high school about three blocks south of there, just on the other side of South Broadway. The deal would have required Kairos to purchase land from the Teamsters Local 6, whose Gambrinus Hall is also on Wisconsin.
