MARYVILLE - Ashley Brannan, RN of Anderson Hospital was recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. ST. LOUIS COUNTY - St. Louis County police officers are investigating a child struck in the 2400 block of North and South Road that resulted in serious injuries to a 2-year-old child. On December 6, 2022, at 4:48 PM, St. Louis County police officers from the Central County Precinct responded to a call for service for a child struck in the 2400 block of North and South Road. Responding officers located a child, approximately 2 years of age, suffering from serious, nonlife-threatening injuries. The child was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Preliminary investigation has revealed a white Pontiac Grand Prix or Grand Am traveling north on North and South Road struck the child and left the scene. The vehicle was last seen eastbound on St. Charles Rock Road from North and South Road. This is an active investigation. Additional information will be disseminated as it becomes available. LOUIS COUNTY - St. Louis County Police Department Crimes Against Persons Detectives are currently investigating an officer-involved shooting at 13857 Riverport Drive in the City of Maryland Heights which resulted in the death of an adult male. On December 7, 2022, at 4:19 PM, Detectives from the City of Maryland Heights Police Department were searching for a suspect in the area of 13857 Riverport Drive. The suspect was wanted in relation to several criminal incidents in various area jurisdictions. Detectives had information the suspect was in the area. Detectives observed the suspect, a 48-year-old male, exit an area business. The suspect walked to the parking lot on the west side of the building. SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Commerce Commission has announced a new area code is coming to southern Illinois. The new 730 area code will “overlay” the existing 618 area code to address the depletion of prefixes available for assignment within the region. The first prefix in the new area code will not be introduced until after July 7, 2023. The 618 area code covers all or parts of 37 counties in Illinois and includes communities such as Alton, Belleville, Cairo, Carbondale, Centralia, E. St. Louis, Edwardsville and Marion. The 618 area code is one of the original, eighty-six area codes in the United States, assigned by Bell Laboratories in 1947. It has not undergone any substantive changes to its boundaries since then. ROXANA - Roxana High School lost a lasting member of the Shells’ athletic club Tuesday night when legendary wrestler Alex Maguire died in a tragic vehicle crash at Illinois Route 3/New Poag Road in Madison County. Both Roxana Athletic Director Mark Briggs and Alex’s coach Rob Milazzo were both shocked at his death. “It happened late last night,” Briggs said. “I talked to the wrestling coach (Rob Milazzo) and we are both in a state of shock about it. Alex was a good kid. It seems like yesterday he was at the state meet smiling ear-to-ear with his whole life ahead of him. This is so unfortunate." Briggs said Roxana was fortunate to have had Alex as a member of their wrestling team and also as a student. “He meant a lot to the Roxana wrestling program,” Briggs said. “I think one of the things, when Alex reflected back on his life, was his positive time with Coach Milazzo and the wrestling program. Coach Milazzo had a huge impact on him.”

MADISON COUNTY - Illinois State Police is investigating a fatal two-unit motor vehicle crash that occurred at 10:12 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at Illinois Route 3 southbound at Oldenburg Road, Madison County. The drivers involved were as follows: Unit 1 - Alexander C. Maguire, a 22-year-old male from Wood River, IL – Deceased Unit 2- Jeremy G. Packer, a 30-year-old male from Granite City, IL – Transported to an area hospital with injuries. JERSEYVILLE - The Jersey County Historical Society will open the historic Cheney house for Christmas tours on Dec. 7, 8, 12, 14, and 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The home is located at 601 N. State St. in Jerseyville. The Cheney house predates Jerseyville and Jersey County and is the oldest home in the Jerseyville area. GODFREY - Several members of the Godfrey Village Board of Trustees discussed the concerns they had about the Godfrey roundabout project being done by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) at their meeting on Tuesday night. The general consensus amongst the board members is that while they agree some measure needs to be taken to address traffic in the area, they don’t feel the project’s current design is right for Godfrey and that IDOT has not provided adequate traffic solutions during the construction phase. “Last night, there was a meeting with IDOT about the roundabout … whether you’re for it or against it, I think Godfrey has been thrown a big problem by IDOT,” Trustee Jeff Weber said. “IDOT’s going to close that section for - I talked to four different people from IDOT, one of them said it’ll take a year, one said a year and a half, one said two years, and one said, ‘I hope we can get it done in three

CHICAGO – Governor Pritzker today signed HB1095, a series of amendments and clarifications to the landmark SAFE-T Act, originally passed in 2021.
