IDPH is Stressing the Availability of Therapeutic Medications to Treat COVID-19 And the Importance of Starting Treatment Quickly SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today reported 24,646 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 46 deaths since April 22, 2022. Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 3,138,682 cases, including 33,614 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois since the beginning of the pandemic. As of last night, 732 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 75 patients were in the ICU and 32 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators. The preliminary seven-day statewide case rate is 193 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 Illinoisans. IDPH officials noted that the case rate has been slowly rising in the state and five Illinois counties are now rated by the CDC as having a Medium Community Level of COVID-19. EDWARDSVILLE – The City of Edwardsville Water Division will be conducting the annual hydrant flushing program beginning Monday, May 2 – 27, 2022. As part of this regular maintenance, the Water Division will be flushing water mains/hydrants within Routes 15, 16, and 17 (flushing routes with street names is attached). The tentative weekly schedule will be provided on ECTV (Channel 993 on Charter Communications) or customers can call the Public Works Department at 692-7535 for additional information. EDWARDSVILLE - Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) has issued an update to students about its masking policy, both for the upcoming spring commencement ceremonies and the summer semester ahead. The university also announced a finals week schedule for voluntary COVID-19 testing at three different campuses. In an email to students on Friday, James Minor - the newest chancellor of SIUE - said this weekend is the first of the university’s Spring 2022 commencement ceremonies and asked attendees to be respectful in light of the masking policy. “I write to remind you that masks are optional at commencement,” Minor wrote in the email. “Please be kind and respectful as people make personal decisions regarding mask wearing.” When the summer term begins on May 9, the university’s current masking policies will remain in effect, according to the email. Sumdog questions are embedded into games, with different games for different learning styles – racing games, cooking games, flying games. GODFREY – The Nature Institute (TNI) is hosting a celebration for one of only two lunar eclipses that can be viewed in the Riverbend area this year. On May 15, 2022, from 7-11:15 p.m., TNI will offer moon-themed games, movies, music, guided hikes, snacks, drinks, a prime eclipse viewing location with telescopes, and binoculars, and more, on the TNI grounds. EDWARDSVILLE - A Life-Saving Award was presented to Correctional Officer Michael Wallendorff last week during the monthly Madison County Board Meeting. Major Jeff Connor of the Madison County Sheriff's Office, told the story involved in the award: "In February of 2020, Deputy Wallendorff, performed CPR on an inmate after the inmate was found unresponsive. CPR was performed for approximately six minutes until EMS personnel arrived on scene. "The inmate was transported to a local hospital and made a recovery. Hospital staff advised the inmate survived because of the CPR performed within the jail." Connor continued and said: "We thank Deputy Wallendorf for his service and commend him for this life-saving action! Great job!"

EAST ST. LOUIS – The U.S. Federal Court announced today that Dinish L. Watson, 26, of East St. Louis, Illinois, was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, for Production of Child Pornography and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Following his release from prison, Watson will serve a five-year term of supervised release. Watson was also ordered to register as a sex offender. According to court documents, on January 11, 2021, the United States Marshal’s Service (USMS) executed an arrest warrant at Watson’s residence for one of Watson’s friends. Discovered during the arrest was a Del-Ton 5.56 caliber rifle with a loaded extended magazine, a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol, a bullet-proof vest, and additional ammunition. Watson admitted to law enforcement officials that he had previously held the rifle and posed for pictures with it. EAST ST. LOUIS – The U.S. District Court announced today that Bernard L. Mosley, Jr., 23, of East St. Louis, Illinois, was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, for being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm. As part of his sentence, Mosley will serve a two-year term of supervised release following his release from federal prison. On August 4, 2020, the United States Marshals Service located Mosley at a house in East St. Louis and arrested him on an active warrant. At the time of his arrest, Mosley was in possession of a loaded handgun. Federal law prohibits convicted felons from possessing firearms or firearm ammunition. A federal grand jury indicted Mosley in October of 2020, and Mosley pled guilty on February 22, 2022. EDWARDSVILLE – The Illinois Department of Transportation announces intermittent lane closures of IL 157 between IL 140 in Hamel and IL 143 near Edwardsville beginning on Monday, May 2, 2022, weather permitting. Two-way traffic will be maintained by the use of flaggers. This project will seal pavement cracks and it should be completed by the end of May 2022.
