TNI Adds Bigs and Littles Hiking Club To Fall Calendar

GODFREY – The Nature Institute’s (TNI) hiking trails, located at 2213 South Levis Lane in Godfrey, Ill, are quiet for now with the end of summer camp, but will soon be teeming with activity. TNI’s fall programs are plentiful and registration is now open. The newest program added to the calendar is the Bigs and Littles Hiking Club. Director of Education, Lauren, wants to invite families to join her family for a hike on the preserve. A carrier or sling is recommended for little legs, as strollers are not recommended on our trails. Bigs and Littles Hiking Club will be monthly starting September 2 with a new trail being explored each month. These hikes are free and open to the public and registration is preferred. Another relatively new program returning this fall is Tiny Trekkers. Suspect Uses False Name: 'High-Risk Stop Results In Arrest Of Man On Multiple Charges

HARDIN - A man faces multiple charges after the Calhoun Sheriff's Office performed what they described as a "high-risk" stop. The charges are for Timothy W. Bricker, 39, of Beardstown. The Calhoun Sheriff's Office said he used an alias of his brother, Benjamin Bricker. An identification card belonging to Benjamin Bricker was located during the arrest. A passenger also identified the driver as Benjamin Bricker. As a result of the investigation, the driver, Timothy W. Bricker, will face the following charges: Driving While Revoked, Fleeing / Attempt to Elude a Peace Officer, Obstructing Justice, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Hypodermic Syringes, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and; Resisting Arrest. The incident occurred at 12:42 a.m. on June 20, 2023. Alton School District's School Supplies Drive-Thru a Big Success

ALTON - A backpack and school supplies drive-thru at Alton High School helped prepare students for the coming school year. The Alton Community Unit School District 11 (ACUSD11) partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Alton and Argosy Cares to provide school supplies to K-12 students in the district. All kids who were registered for school qualified for supplies. Volunteers and teachers began passing out supplies at 4 p.m. on Aug. 10 until they ran out. “It is an outstanding turnout, even better than we expected,” ACUSD11 Superintendent Dr. Kristie Baumgartner said. “We're very thankful to partner with the Boys and Girls Club to produce this event. GLEN CARBON - Glen Carbon Mayor Bob Marcus made several announcements about various things going on around the village at the Village Board meeting earlier this week, including everything from debris dumpsters to new boat parking regulations, online surveys, and an upcoming car show. Wood River Police Chief Discusses Homicide Case

WOOD RIVER - Wood River Police Chief Brad Wells discussed a rare homicide case in the city that occurred two weeks ago and thanked the City Council for their support throughout this investigation at their meeting on Monday. “Two weeks ago today something that we don’t have happen often in our city, but we did have a homicide,” Chief Wells said. “Within just a couple hours of the homicide happening, the men and women of the Wood River Police Department had that bad guy in custody, and he’s been in custody since that homicide happened.” Austin L. GRANITE CITY - Granite City Police have resolved a report of a missing juvenile and charged a California, Mo., man with multiple aggravated criminal sexual abuse counts. On Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023, the Granite City Police Department received a report of a missing juvenile. Also on Aug. 8, the Granite City Police Department received additional information and through an investigation, detectives were able to identify a suspect involved in the juvenile’s disappearance and their possible location. Detectives contacted the California, Mo., Police Department and the suspect was taken into custody. The juvenile was recovered and later returned to their family. Detectives from the Granite City Police Department then responded to the Moniteau County Sheriff’s Department, where the suspect was being held. EDWARDSVILLE - Civic Memorial softball player Bryleigh Ward emerged as a key part of the Eagles' girls' softball lineup this past spring, being described as a second leadoff hitter who can reach base and hits the ball hard, putting it in play at key moments. One highlight was early in the season when Ward smashed a game-tying two-run homer in the top of the fifth in CM's win at Edwardsville 6-4 on April 3, which is a signature win for the program over one of the best teams in both the Metro-East and St. Louis area.
