EAST ALTON—Multiple police agencies executed a search warrant in the 100 block of Bonds Avenue on Wednesday night, deploying two armored SWAT vehicles during the operation. Officers established a command post in the 500 block of Lewis and Clark Boulevard as they carried out the warrant. A male individual was observed in handcuffs being placed into a police vehicle. The reasons for the search warrant remain unclear, and authorities have not released additional information regarding the incident. As the situation developed, police maintained a presence in the area, but further details about the nature of the investigation have not been disclosed.

ALTON - Over $11,000 has been added to the grand total of more than $1 million allocated so far towards improving a section of Milton Road in Alton. Alton City Council members on Wednesday gave their unanimous approval to an agreement with Sheppard, Morgan and Schwaab, Inc. (SMS) under which the city will provide the firm an additional $11,308 to acquire two land parcels of right-of-way. As previously reported on Riverbender.com , these parcels were discovered after the project was designed, and the original agreement between SMS and the city had no provisions for right-of-way acquisition. The updated agreement will cover the cost of all work associated with the acquisitions, including record research, title work, appraisals and more. Phase 1 of the Milton Road Improvement Project will consist of “pavement patching, pavement milling, hot-mix asphalt resurfacing, sidewalk curb, ramps” and other improvements made along a 0.32-mile section of Milton Road from

COLLINSVILLE — A 73-year-old woman from Collinsville died Sunday evening, Dec. 8, 2024, after being struck by a vehicle while walking on Troy Road, according to Madison County Coroner Nicholas P. Novacich. Patricia A. Green was hit in the 400 block of Troy Road around 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 8, 2024. The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and called 911. Green was subsequently transported to the emergency department at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, where she was pronounced dead at 7:36 p.m. by the attending physician. Preliminary findings indicate that Green died from blunt head and chest trauma, with a final cause of death pending the results of routine toxicology tests. The incident is currently under investigation by the Illinois State Police Troop 8 and the Madison County Coroner’s Office. Funeral arrangements for Green are being handled by Austin Layne Mortuary in St. Louis, Mo. Further details about the arrangements are pending.

COLLINSVILLE — The Collinsville Police Department conducted a series of alcohol and tobacco compliance checks on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, aimed at reducing underage consumption of these substances. The initiative targeted a dozen local retail establishments in an effort to deter sales to minors. The compliance checks included a range of locations, such as Sloan’s Pub House at 119 West Main St., Moto Mart on Vandalia Street, and multiple Sav-On Liquor & Wine outlets. The initiative sought to address concerns about underage access to alcohol and tobacco products within the city. Following the checks, four individuals were cited for the sale of alcohol to a minor. MADISON - A St. Louis woman faces multiple felonies after a police chase in a stolen car led to the deployment of spike strips and more. Danielle K. Donohue, 40, of St. Louis, was charged with a Class 2 felony count of offenses related to motor vehicles and a Class 4 felony count of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer. On Nov. 7, 2024, Donohue allegedly possessed a 2013 Chevrolet Impala with an Illinois vehicle registration which she reportedly knew to be stolen. She also ignored a visual or audible signal from an officer to stop the vehicle and disobeyed multiple traffic control devices during the incident. WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Congresswoman Nikki Budzinski (IL-13) voted to pass the final version of the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) that authorizes critical steps forward to address flooding in the Metro East. The bill now heads to the Senate for further consideration. At Budzinski’s request, the 2024 WRDA includes an increase in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers budget cap and allows the Corps to address stormwater management issues in their future response efforts in Madison and St. Clair Counties. GLEN CARBON - The Glen Carbon Police Department will see some personnel changes in the near future as it expands its hiring capabilities to offset an "exodus" of retiring officers and K-9s. A total of seven officers are set to leave the department by next spring. SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) would like to remind the public to report any large mortality events of waterfowl and other waterbirds during seasonal migrations. Several dozen waterbirds, primarily snow geese, have died of suspected highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) at Baldwin Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area in Randolph County recently. Other mortality events may occur in the state as waterfowl arrive from northern breeding grounds and congregate. IDNR first announced HPAI was detected in wild Canada geese in Illinois in March 2022 in a joint notice with the Illinois Department of Agriculture. IDNR will continue to monitor for mortality events from HPAI during the seasonal bird migration. CHICAGO - Attorney General Kwame Raoul today announced the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon granted a preliminary injunction in Raoul’s lawsuit challenging the proposed merger between Albertsons and Kroger. The ruling halts the merger of the largest supermarket chains in the country, including two of the Chicago area’s major grocery chains, Jewel-Osco and Mariano’s, pending an administrative trial before the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). “Today’s ruling is a victory for consumers in Illinois and across the country,” Raoul said. “Reduced competition would lead to higher grocery prices for families at a time when too many can least afford it. BENTON – Criminal organizations are manipulating older Americans into turning over their life savings to foreign conspirators, and U.S. Attorney Rachelle Aud Crowe is warning southern Illinois residents on the prevalence of imposter scams. “Unfortunately, we’re aware of several instances where seniors in southern Illinois have been victimized by imposter scams, most recently in Williamson County,” said U.S. Attorney Crowe. “The Marion Police Department did extensive investigative work in the case, and we’re pleased to have them as a partner to gain justice for the victims.” Imposter scams begin with a communication from the scammer in the form of a phone call, text or email from a seemingly reputable source like PayPal.
