CARROLLTON — The frequency of and damages caused by severe storms and other natural hazards in Greene County will be discussed when the Greene County Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee meets at the Greene County Health Department, 310 5th Street in Carrollton, at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28. This Committee, comprised of County, township, municipal, healthcare, education, fire protection district, and drainage and levee district representatives, as well as technical partners and stakeholders, will meet over the next several months to update the Greene County Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan. HARDIN – The Illinois Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting to discuss the study to replace the bridge that carries Illinois 16/100 over the Illinois River (Joe Page Bridge). The meeting will be held: Thursday, March 21 5-8 p.m. Calhoun High School 102 Calhoun Ave., Hardin IDOT, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, has initiated the Preliminary Engineering and Environmental Study of the Joe Page Bridge, which carries Illinois 16/100 over the Illinois River to connect Calhoun and Greene counties. The Phase I study will look at options for the rehabilitation or replacement of the existing bridge. The purpose of the meeting is to provide an overview of the project, including conceptual corridors for viewing and comment, and obtain public input. JERSEYVILLE - Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab Center was cited with the "most severe" violation of the Nursing Home Care Act, which occurs when a condition or occurrence at the facility proximately causes a resident’s death. Located at 1001 S. State Street in Jerseyville, Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab Center was one of five Illinois facilities to be cited with AA violations of the Nursing Home Care Act in the second quarter of 2024. They will be fined $77,200. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) report on Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab Center addressed several incidents at the facility, including one resident who repeatedly fell and another who developed pressure ulcers. Both residents also had issues with foot care. EAST ST. LOUIS – A federal grand jury has indicted three Metro East residents, alleging they fraudulently obtained over $20,000 each in pandemic relief funds through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). The indictments charge Katherine L. Liggins, 36, Eric C. Scott, 43, and Tamika N. Wilson, 44, all of Belleville, with wire fraud and making false statements. At the time of the alleged misconduct, Liggins, Scott, and Wilson were full-time employees of the Veterans Affairs Regional Office in St. Louis County. The U.S. Small Business Administration created the PPP to mitigate the financial hardships caused by the COVID-19 Pandemic, offering forgivable loans to struggling businesses for payroll and operational costs. CAHOKIA - A Cahokia man who died after being shot to death on Camp Jackson Road in Cahokia Heights early Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024, has been identified as Trevion J. Brown. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:20 a.m. Tuesday. Brown had an address listed in the 300 block of Range Lane, Cahokia Heights. Cahokia Heights Police are investigating the crime. The call came into police at 12:39 a.m. on Tuesday. Law enforcement said a motive has not been discovered yet and they urge anyone with any information on this crime to contact the Cahokia Heights Police Department at (618) 332-1184.

MADISON COUNTY — At approximately 5:02 a.m. Wednesday morning, Aug. 21, 2024, Madison County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of an attempted vehicle theft in the 3100 block of West Chain of Rocks Road. Upon arrival, deputies observed the stolen vehicle fleeing the scene, prompting a brief vehicle pursuit. The pursuit concluded in the area of New Poag Road and Old Alton Road where the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. A subsequent foot pursuit ensued, leading deputies to establish a perimeter in the vicinity. Several surrounding police agencies provided assistance in the search effort. Despite the coordinated efforts, the suspect remains at large. "As of this moment, the suspect is not in custody; however, we are actively following up on leads to apprehend him. The stolen vehicle has been recovered. Authorities continue to investigate and urge anyone with information to come forward.

ALTON - Pride, Inc. will host their biannual City-Wide Litter Cleanup to further their “Love Where You Live” initiative. ALTON - Illinois Central School Bus and the Alton Community Unit School District #11 (ACUSD11) have issued statements following bussing complications on the first day of school. On Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, confusion about the bus routes resulted in some ACUSD11 students riding the bus after school and others being kept at school until parents picked them up. FOSTERBURG - A single-vehicle crash on I-255 in Madison County resulted in one fatality Tuesday afternoon, according to local authorities. The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on the southbound lanes of I-255 near Stutz Road. Police reported that the vehicle veered off the roadway, crashed through a fence, and ultimately came to rest upside down. Emergency responders from the Fosterburg Fire Department, Madison County Sheriff's Department, Illinois State Police, and Madison County Coroner's Office arrived at the scene to assist. BETHALTO - A Bethalto man is facing multiple felonies after he allegedly admitted to stabbing his dog repeatedly. Nikolas G. Duley, 25, of Bethalto, was charged with animal torture, a Class 3 felony, and aggravated cruelty to animals, a Class 4 felony. Descriptions of the charges state that he “repeatedly stabbed a boxer-type dog in the neck and rib cage with a knife, inflicting pain on the animal." On Aug. 8, 2024, Duley was reportedly seen with lacerations on his hands at Alton Memorial Hospital, where he indicated to nearby security officers “that he had killed his dog,” according to a petition to deny his pretrial release. “Officers went to his apartment, finding a dog deceased from multiple stab wounds to the ribs and neck,” the petition states. “The animal was left on the couch, with blood throughout the apartment.” The petition concluded by adding Duley “has been involuntarily committed in the past, and shows signs of

ALTON - After a years-long series of abusive incidents, an Alton couple faces several counts of battery against children and weapon-related charges. Anthony L. Glen, 55, and Jazmin S. Keyhea, 36, both of Alton, were both charged with aggravated domestic battery (both Class 2 felonies), with each separately facing additional charges. Keyhea faces an additional Class 2 felony count of aggravated domestic battery, as well as one count of possession of a firearm with no valid Firearm Owners’ Identification (FOID) card (a Class A misdemeanor). Glen was additionally charged with unlawful use or possession of weapons by a felon, his second or subsequent such offense and a Class 2 felony, as well as one count of domestic battery (a Class A misdemeanor). The two aggravated domestic battery charges against Keyhea concern two incidents from years prior.
