WOOD RIVER - Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine and Wood River Police Chief Brad Wells announced today that a Glen Carbon man has been charged in connection with a home invasion that ended in a fatality. August C. Archambault, 20, has been charged with Home Invasion (class X felony), Aggravated Robbery (class 1 felony) and Residential Burglary (class 1 felony). The charges allege that on May 16, 2024, Archambault, or one for whose conduct he was legally accountable, entered a residence on Thompson Street in Wood River. The charges also allege that the defendant, or one for whose conduct he was legally accountable, caused injury to the resident and took property, a firearm, from the resident. The most serious of the charges is Home Invasion, which is punishable by up to 30 years in prison. Police responded to the apartment on the night of May 16 after receiving reports of a gunshot. JERSEYVILLE - Illinois American Water has issued a systemwide boil water order for its water customers in the Jerseyville District operations Tuesday night. The boil water order became necessary following a water main break on a transmission line that caused water pressure to drop below 20 pounds per square inch in portions of the Jerseyville water system. Illinois American Water crews are making repairs to the transmission line located at Pine Lane and Vhale Road in Jerseyville Tuesday night. Jerseyville customers may experience temporary cloudy water, reduction or loss of water pressure or discolored water while repairs are being made. During the boil water order, customers should bring their water to a rolling boil for five minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. Water is OK for bathing, washing and other common uses. GLEN CARBON - The Meijer grocery store set for the center lot of Orchard Town Center will be built later than expected. The Glen Carbon Village Board voted unanimously on Tuesday to extend the store’s site plan, which was originally set to expire on Oct. 11, 2024. The request comes after the board previously extended the site plan for one year in 2023. In a memo to village trustees, Community Development Director Erica Heil cited “mine remediation issues” as a contributing factor to the most recent delay. “As the building will still be completed, but after the deadline, they have requested a one-year extension,” Heil wrote. “Meijer has begun work in earnest addressing the mine remediation issues that must be resolved prior to moving forward with the site plan.” At Tuesday’s meeting, she added that aside from the construction timeline, no other changes to the site plan were requested. CASEYVILLE – A 64-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle while pushing his bicycle in the 1600 block of Black Lane in Caseyville, according to authorities. The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office is actively searching for a suspect in the case as the driver fled the scene. The Illinois State Police Reconstruction team was called in to investigate the incident. Deputies were dispatched to the Black Lane location on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, after receiving a report of a man down alongside the roadway. The victim has been identified as Benigno Torres. He was transported to Memorial Hospital in Belleville from the scene with severe injuries, where he later died. ALTON - In an effort to tackle hunger and foster community spirit, Marquette Catholic High School and Belleville Althoff High School are engaging in a friendly competition to collect canned food from September 23-27, 2024. The initiative, known as the KSDK Tackle Hunger Challenge, encourages students and community members to donate canned goods to support Marquette Catholic. Participants are asked to bring 10 cans of food to the Marquette Athletic Office. In return, they will receive a Dress Down Pass, which can be used at school before October 31, 2024. This pass allows students to dress in casual attire, deviating from the usual school dress code. The competition will culminate in a football game on Friday, September 27, 2024, where the winner of the challenge will be announced. EAST ST. LOUIS – Felicia D. Harris, a 44-year-old woman from Belleville, has been charged by a federal grand jury with four counts of interstate transportation of a security obtained by fraud. Harris, who is employed at the U.S. National Geospatial Agency in St. Louis, is accused of falsely applying for, accepting, and spending more than $20,000 in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) funds for personal expenses. The charges stem from alleged activities between February and May 2021, during which Harris is said to have received $20,614 in PPP funds that she was not entitled to. According to court documents, she then used misinformation to apply for loan forgiveness, which was subsequently approved. In response to financial hardships created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Small Business Administration implemented the PPP to offer relief and forgivable loans to struggling businesses. From 5–10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, and Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, kids can enjoy games, inflatables, bingo and more at St. Ambrose at 820 W. Homer M. Adams Parkway in Godfrey. EDWARDSVILLE – A restoration project is set to begin that will transform a 2-acre plot at the City’s Joe Glik Park into a native prairie habitat. The prairie project space sits on a sloping piece of land on the southeast edge of the 42-acre park at 710 East Lake Drive. It is near a smaller patch where the parks staff previously planted sunflowers, an effort that yielded mixed results and required an ongoing investment of time and materials.
