ST. LOUIS COUNTY - St. Louis County Police Crimes Against Persons detectives and the Accident Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal motor crash near the intersection of Mackenzie Road and Langley Avenue which later resulted in the death of an adult female. On August 21, 2022, at 4:53 PM, St. Louis County police officers from the Affton Southwest Precinct responded to a call for service for a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Mackenzie Road and Langley Avenue. Arriving officers located five motor vehicles involved in a motor vehicle crash. Preliminary investigation has revealed a Ford Focus was stopped southbound on Mackenzie Road, waiting to turn onto Langley Avenue, when it was rear-ended by a Volkswagen Jetta, resulting in a muti-vehicle accident. The driver of the Focus, a 67-year-old female, was conveyed to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. An 8-year-old rear passenger of the Focus was conveyed to an area hospital for minor injuries.

Former Ward 22 alderman Jeffrey Boyd pled guilty to corruption and wire fraud charges today in federal court. He will be sentenced on December 6. Boyd is the second alderman to plead guilty for their part in a scheme to unlawfully secure tax breaks for a developer.

ST. LOUIS - Schlafly Beer makes moves in Michigan and Ohio. Beers made by the St. Louis brewery can now be bought in 16 states and the District of Columbia. Schlafly has two St. Louis locations including the Schlafly Tap Room on Locust and Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood.

ALTON - Senior Services Plus (SSP) is hosting a Pickleball Tournament fundraiser for the United Way of Greater St. Louis on Saturday, September 10 th , 2022 at their wellness center located at 2603 N Rodgers Drive in Alton. SSP is excited to partner with EmpowerMe Wellness to host a Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, September 10 th , 2022. All proceeds will be donated to the United Way of Greater St. Louis. Players must be 55 or older and will register in teams of two. There will be two divisions, open doubles and mixed doubles, and registration is $50 per team. Register by 8/30 to get a free t-shirt. The tournament will be double elimination with each team guaranteed at least two games. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team in each division. The MAC is a non-profit art school created with the goal of bringing Art To All, serving over 20,000 children and adults since 2017. Soon, if things go according to plan, St. Louis neighborhoods hit hardest by the opioid epidemic will be stocked with old mailboxes repurposed to offer free Narcan, the life-saving drug that awakens people who’ve lost consciousness because of an overdose on heroin and other opioids. The Narcan stations will also offer strips to test for fentanyl, the synthetic opioid up to 100 times more powerful than morphine; a mouth guard for CPR; and pamphlets providing information on accessing treatment and recovery services, according to Marsha Hawkins-Hourd, the executive director of the Child and Family Empowerment Center. “We want to put these in the hotspots in the neighborhoods so that they have immediate access to Narcan,” says Hawkins-Hourd.

DU QUOIN, IL. - Illinois State Police (ISP) is looking forward to welcoming fairgoers back to the Du Quoin State Fair in 2022. The fair opens Friday, August 26th, and continues through Monday, September 5th. “As the ISP celebrates 100 years of serving the citizens of Illinois, we stand ready to serve all who come out to the fair this year to enjoy all it has to offer,” said ISP District 13 Commander Captain Joshua Anderton. “The ISP will have plenty of Troopers on site to ensure a safe and enjoyable Du Quoin State Fair,” he added. Troopers will be assigned to the State Fair to provide public safety with walking patrols, gate security, monitored surveillance cameras, and undercover officers. The Du Quoin Fire Department and area ambulance services are also prepared for emergencies during the event and the First Aid Station is located on the north end of the Grandstand.
