St. Louis County Man Murdered Woman with Baseball Bat, Police Say

A 31-year-old St. Louis County man was charged with murder today for beating an elderly woman to death with a baseball bat on Wednesday. A Berkeley Police Department probable cause statement says that yesterday on the 8800 block of Kathlyn Avenue, Isaac Heath allegedly used the bat to beat Eileen Schnitker, 76. Schnitker is listed as living on Kathlyn Avenue.

For the fourth month in a row, Missouri's medical marijuana industry has raked in more than $30 million dollars in cannabis sales, according to June numbers released by the Department of Health and Senior Services. Missouri cannabis dispensaries did $30.94 million in sales last month, DHSS reports, bringing the total amount of money brought in by the industry to $393.09 million to date. That's a serious chunk of change, to be sure.

Missouri Prison Waited Hours to Call 911 After Fatal Attack, Inmate Says

Two inmates at the Northeast Correctional Center have been charged with the January 8 murder of 43-year-old Joshua Hewitt, who was in prison with them in Bowling Green. A grand jury indictment filed in Pike County alleges that inmates Elijah Kent and Matthew Marshall also tampered with evidence by attempting to clean or conceal Hewitt's blood at the scene. Kent, 35, is serving a seven year term for domestic assault.

The Missouri Developmental Disabilities Council aims to award $275,000 to an organization that develops the best proposal for disrupting the school-to-prison pipeline for students of color with developmental disabilities. The winner could be a school, organization or even district. [content-1] The school-to-prison pipeline, according to the American Civil Liberties Union, is a “national trend wherein youth are funneled out of public schools and into the juvenile and criminal legal systems.” The ACLU credits expulsion and suspension as key factors in supplementing this pipeline, since both practices push kids out of school for days at a time, out of reach of educational support networks.

A corrections sergeant's serial sexual harassment was allowed to continue unabated for years at the St. Louis County Jail, according to internal documents given to the Riverfront Times. A 73-page report into the conduct of Aaron Mitchell outlines accusations against him by four women, as well as email evidence of improper communication between Mitchell and more than a dozen others. The accusations from the four women span five years, from 2016 to 2021, though there is indication that Mitchell's practice of sexual harassment likely began earlier.

The brothers went through high school and college on four wheels, and now they have a chance to give back to that community through a partnership with SK8 Liborius, a nonprofit organization that doubles as an arts center and workshop for St. Louis skaters, artists and more. Through July and August, a portion of the proceeds made from a new taco will be donated to the organization.

The yearly blossoming of the sunflowers allows you to grab your friends and snag the perfect 'gram photo, but it’s also a chance to take in the beauty of nature. The Missouri Department of Conservation staggered the planting of the sunflowers to keep them in bloom from early July to mid-August depending on the weather; they also planted extra so the flowers will be more visible.
