ALTON - Alderwoman Rosetta "Rosie" Brown is asking the 4th Ward to give her another opportunity to give back. In a recent conversation on “Our Daily Show!” with CJ Nasello , Brown outlined her vision for the 4th Ward and the City of Alton. She explained that she has done a lot to empower and serve her constituents, and she hopes for another four-year term to do more. “I’m asking that you give another round to Rosie Brown,” she said. “I am encouraged, I am ignited, and I am determined to continue to move forward.” Brown is most proud of how she has connected with the people in the 4th Ward. She believes she has encouraged them to engage with the City of Alton and voice their concerns. BENTON – A Southern Illinois district judge sentenced a St. Louis man to 145 months in federal prison for his involvement in a vehicle sale scheme using fake cashier’s checks and targeting victims in Madison, Jasper, Bond and Fayette counties. Valentino Colic, 34, pleaded guilty in September to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, two counts of wire fraud, two counts of interstate transportation of property taken by fraud and six counts of aggravated identity theft. Following imprisonment, he will serve three years of supervised release. The 11-count indictment also named co-conspirators Alen Saric, 36, Almir Palic, 25, and Emad Hasanbegovic, 34, all of St. Louis. Saric pleaded guilty in January to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, one count of interstate transportation of property taken by fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 7. Palic was sentenced to 51 months in February. Hasanbegovic is

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today questioned witnesses during the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution hearing entitled “The Censorship Industrial Complex.” Durbin began by asking Benjamin Weingarten, a Commentator and Senior Contributor to The Federalist, about the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol. CHICAGO – Attorney General Kwame Raoul today joined a multistate coalition of 19 attorneys general in filing an amicus brief supporting the plaintiffs’ challenge to the Trump administration’s early terminations of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designations for Haitians and Venezuelans. EDWARDSVILLE – 80 years to the day after the Edwardsville Garden Club placed a plaque in City Park in memory of those who died in World War II, its members will host a rededication event to again honor the veterans’ heroism and sacrifices. The ceremony will take place in City Park, 101 S. Buchanan Street, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, the same time and day as the original 1945 event. CHICAGO – Attorney General Kwame Raoul led a coalition of 22 attorneys general in seeking a court order to force the Trump administration to unfreeze essential funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Despite multiple court orders, including a preliminary injunction issued on March 6 blocking the Trump administration from unlawfully freezing federal funds, the administration continues to withhold hundreds of millions of dollars in grants to states from FEMA. GLEN CARBON – The Glen Carbon Police Department gained four new officers on Tuesday night as each were sworn in and introduced to the community. At this week’s Village Board meeting, Mayor Bob Marcus administered the official oaths for new officers Zachary Keplar, Keonta Lane, Myron Jackson, and Blake Barth. Police Chief Todd Link said a fifth new officer, Mike Brown, will be sworn in at a later date. While training five incoming officers at the same time proved challenging for the village’s smaller police department, Link commended each for making the process “seamless” with their exceptional training performance. ALTON - Over 100 Alton Community Unit School District #11 students have written their first books. Kindergarten through eighth grade students in the district had the opportunity to participate in Young Authors, a program that encourages students to write and illustrate their own books. Of the 118 Alton participants, 28 were selected to advance to the county conference on April 26, 2025. “The goal is to be fostering that love of writing at an early age, which not only strengthens their literacy skills, but it builds their confidence and their critical thinking,” explained Rene Hart, ACUSD11 Director of Curriculum and Instruction. “Our students really take pride in that work.” Students sign up for the Young Authors program in the fall and have a few months to write and illustrate their books. ST. LOUIS COUNTY - St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons detectives are investigating a homicide in the 2500 block of Saddle Ridge Drive that resulted in the death of an adult male. On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 12:25 p.m., St. Louis County police officers from the North County Precinct responded to a call for service for a shooting in the 2500 block of Saddle Ridge Drive. An adult male was found suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The male was transported to an area hospital for treatment but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. There are no suspects in custody currently. The investigation is ongoing. Additional information will be disseminated as it becomes available.
