SAINT LOUIS - Two local wrestlers will be inducted into the Independent St. Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame. Luke Roberts and Mark Bland stopped by “Our Daily Show!” with C.J. Nasello to talk about their upcoming enshrinement into the Hall of Fame. EDWARDSVILLE — Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine has assembled a team of 35 elected State’s Attorneys from across Illinois to file an amicus brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals’ Seventh Circuit, arguing Illinois’ ban on so-called assault weapons is unconstitutional. In the amicus brief, also known as a friend-of-the-court brief, the group of State’s Attorneys argues that the ban enacted by Illinois is unconstitutional because it broadly bans entire categories of firearms that are widely owned by law-abiding Illinoisans, and the ban does not follow the historical tradition of firearm regulation in the United States. GRAFTON - At Alton Godfrey Rotary’s meeting on Monday, June 9, club President Donna Bemis presented a check for $15,000 from Alton Godfrey Rotary to Grafton Mayor Mike Morrow to help fund the National Memorial of Military Ascent that is currently under development in Grafton. Mayor Morrow presented details of the project to the Rotarians. The Memorial will be set against the limestone bluffs in Grafton overlooking the Mississippi River. The centerpiece of this memorial will be life-sized bronze statues of U.S. Army Rangers placed along the bluff, replicating the climb they endured to reach the top of Pointe Du Hoc cliffs on Omaha Beach as part of the initial D-Day landings. Plans for the Memorial include tributes to all who have served, and will include educational events, interactive and immersion experiences, and walkways designed to foster an enhanced historical perspective of the D-Day events. BELLEVILLE - The third annual Wounded Warriors Wiffle Wars will offer a slow-pitch wiffle ball tournament, raffles, food and more fun to support the troops. ALTON — Alton marked its 34th consecutive Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 14, 2025, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States and highlighting the city’s longstanding commitment to the holiday. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is observed annually on June 19. It honors the day in 1865 when Union soldiers informed enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, of their freedom, more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863. During Saturday’s event, Alton Mayor David Goins presented a detailed proclamation recognizing the city’s involvement in celebrating Juneteenth. The proclamation was given to Marquato Rattler, a member of the Juneteenth Committee. HARDIN - On June 9th 2025, the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office received two separate reports of Burglaries which had occurred in Calhoun County, Illinois; during the early morning hours of June 9th 2025. One burglary occurred at “ Flower’s By Glenda ” in Kampsville; wherein the door was breached and a cash register was stolen. An additional burglary occurred at “ Michael Tavern ” in Michael, IL; wherein two doors were breached and items were stolen from behind the bar. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office immediately began an intensive investigation into the burglaries. ALTON – Two local sex offenders have been charged by Alton police with failing to register after multiple prior convictions for the same offense. Andrew E. Phillips, 42, listed as homeless out of Alton, was charged on June 9, 2025 with two counts of unlawful failure to register as a sex offender, his second or subsequent such offenses and both Class 2 felonies. From Aug. 27, 2024 to June 4, 2025 Phillips allegedly failed to register on a weekly basis with the Alton Chief of Police as legally required under the Sex Offender Registration Act. Phillips was also charged for failing to register on a quarterly basis on Nov. 27, 2024. Charging documents state Phillips has previously been convicted of failing to register as a sex offender in five prior Madison County cases from 2025, 2023, 2018, 2017, and 2013.
