GODFREY – Lewis and Clark Community College is hosting a girls’ volleyball clinic this summer in the George C. Terry River Bend Arena on the Godfrey Campus. The first session for 5th-8th grade students takes place June 16-18, 2025, and the second session for 9th-12th grade students takes place June 23-25. Sessions are 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. each day and will cover skills including passing, digging, setting, hitting, blocking and serving. The cost is $150 and includes a t-shirt. WATERLOO – The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that pavement preservation operations on Illinois 3 from Market Street to Vanderbrook Drive will begin, weather permitting, Monday, May 12, 2025. MINNEAPOLIS/EAST ST. LOUIS - A 33-year-old East St. Louis native died at a Minneapolis hospital shortly after being shot late Sunday night, April 27, 2025, according to authorities. The Minneapolis Police Department responded to a report of a shooting near 29th Street and Clinton Avenue around 11:45 p.m. on April 27. The victim, identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner as Lamont Agnew Jr., suffered multiple gunshot wounds and later died at Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis. EDWARDSVILLE - Aubree Briggs is a freshman girls soccer player for Granite City High School, and on April 24, 2025, at Tiger Stadium in Edwardsville, she came up big when it counted. Briggs scored off a header at the far post that snuck inside the post itself and into the net to give the Warriors a 1-1 draw with Edwardsville, undoubtedly one of the biggest goals of the season for Granite. ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — An 11-year-old boy was fatally shot Monday evening in St. Louis County, authorities said. The deceased has been identified as Aleksandr Lanis, 38 years of age, of the 1000 block of Hawkins Bend Drive in Fenton, Mo., 63026. At 8:14 p.m., officers from the North County Precinct responded to a shooting report in the 1800 block of Longford Drive. Upon arrival, they found the child suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The boy was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons detectives are investigating the incident. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under review, and officials have not released further details. Additional information will be provided as the investigation continues.

WOOD RIVER – Wood River Mayor Tom Stalcup and Councilmembers Jeremy Plank and Scott Tweedy took their oaths of office on Monday night after securing uncontested re-election bids in the April 2025 elections. All three men briefly stepped down to conclude their terms of office before each being sworn in by City Clerk Danielle Sneed, then being re-seated as the new Wood River City Council. Plank reflected on the council’s accomplishments over the past four years, adding that he’s looking forward to the next four years. PIASA - Greyson Brewer, a senior running back and cornerback for Southwestern High School in Piasa, recently received a college opportunity to play football at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. He signed to take a scholarship at Augustana recently at Southwestern High. He has been named an Altonized Community Federal Credit Union Male Athlete of the Month. Brewer had a strong senior football season for Piasa Birds' head coach Pat Keith. Brewer appeared in nine games during his final high school season, carrying the ball 111 times for 605 yards, including a longest run of 54 yards. He scored six touchdowns on the ground and added 12 receptions for 187 yards and two more touchdowns. Coach Keith praised Brewer’s performance for the Piasa Birds in his career. His contributions helped lead the Piasa Birds during his senior year, earning him outstanding recognition.
