Alton Police Continues To Investigate Shooting, Victim Is Still 'Critical'

ALTON - Alton Police Chief Jarrett Ford followed up Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, with information regarding the shooting of a 13-year-old child on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, in the 900 block of Highland Avenue. The 13-year-old is still in critical condition, Chief Ford said. "Her family is by her side as they pray for her survival," added the chief. Chief Ford said Alton Police Department Criminal Investigation Division detectives have worked tirelessly since the shooting occurred. "They continue to follow up on active leads," he said. "They will continue to relentlessly pursue justice for the victim and her family. Two Charged With Weapon Possession By Felon, Stolen Vehicle, More In Jersey County

JERSEYVILLE - Two individuals have been charged in separate cases with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a stolen vehicle, and more, according to recent Jersey County court documents. Timothy G. Glenn, 25, of St. Louis, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon (a Super Class 3 felony), unlawful possession of stolen vehicle (a Class 2 felony), and aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer (a Class 4 felony). On Jan. 28, 2024, Glenn allegedly stole a silver 2012 Nissan Altima with a Missouri registration number. He also possessed a “loaded Glock 22 .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol with a round chambered and a 15-round magazine with an assortment of Winchester and Federal ammunition” after previously being convicted of a felony, according to court documents. Firefighters Battle Destructive Blaze In Vacant Warehouse

ST. LOUIS - Firefighters battled a serious four-alarm fire in a five-story vacant warehouse on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, at 1st and O'Fallon streets in the Near North Riverfront Area of St. Louis. The fire was also close to the Horseshoe St. Louis casino. The warehouse was destroyed in the fire and will have to be torn down. Fire officials have not released the cause of the Saturday fire. Thankfully, the fire did not damage surrounding buildings because of the firefighters' diligent efforts. The firefighters responded around 6 a.m. on Saturday and when they arrived, there was heavy fire. Ameren Missouri shut the power down to businesses in the vicinity of the fire for multiple hours. Black History Month Exhibit Officially Opens in Alton

ALTON - Alton’s Black History Month Exhibit is officially open at City Hall. From Monday, Feb. 5 to Feb. 29, 2024, visitors can view the display in the lobby during City Hall’s open hours. The exhibit covers Black history in Alton starting in the early 1900s through the present day, with information about local leaders, churches, musicians and more. “I think it’s important for this generation now to understand and know and be exposed to the history of Black legacy in this community and the wealth of Black history here, because it is endless,” said First Lady Sheila Goins, who helped organize the exhibit. Goins worked with local historian Charlotte Johnson. Attorney General Raoul Announces Multistate Agreement With Opioid Manufacturer Hikma Pharmaceuticals

CHICAGO - Attorney General Kwame Raoul, as part of a bipartisan group of attorneys general, today announced a $150 million multistate settlement agreement in principle with opioid manufacturer Hikma Pharmaceuticals (Hikma) for its role in fueling the opioid crisis. Raoul’s office also announced today a $350 million national settlement with Publicis Health to resolve investigations into the global marketing and communications firm’s role in the prescription opioid epidemic. Hikma produces a range of branded and generic opioid products and sells hundreds of millions of opioid doses every year. The agreement in principle resolves claims that from 2006 to 2021, Hikma failed to monitor and report suspicious opioid orders from potentially illegal distributors, even as personnel knew their systems to monitor suspicious orders were inadequate and prone to failure. Alton Police Respond To Shooting, 13-Year-Old Airlifted To St. Louis Hospital

ALTON - The Alton Police Department responded to multiple reports that a person had been shot while at a residence in the 900 block of Highland Avenue in Alton on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024. The initial reports came in to Alton Police at 2:55 p.m. on Saturday. Alton Police Chief Jarrett Ford said officers immediately responded to the scene and located a 13-year-old female who had been shot. "Life-saving measures were performed and the Alton Fire Department subsequently transported the victim to a local hospital," Chief Ford said. "The victim was later flown to a St. Louis area hospital. She remains in critical condition." Alton Police Officers were assisted in securing the scene and other areas by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, and other area police agencies.
