SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) is reminding job seekers and employers that, effective January 1, 2025, all job postings made by employers with 15 or more employees will need to include pay scale and benefit information. This amendment to the Illinois Equal Pay Act of 2003 (IL EPA) was contained in HB 3129, passed by the General Assembly and signed into law by Governor JB Pritzker in 2023. The amendment brings greater transparency to the hiring process by giving prospective employees the opportunity to learn about what compensation and benefits the employer will offer for an open job position. PONTOON BEACH - As part of a multi-phase effort to enhance the bus rider experience, Madison County Transit (MCT) is rolling out an exciting new system known as Computer-Aided Dispatch / Automated Vehicle Location (CAD/AVL). Last week, new solar-powered, digital display signs were installed at 31 bus stops throughout Madison County. The screens are ruggedized, all-weather, 13-inch, “e-ink” digital screens that display real-time next bus arrival information for the locations where they are installed. Passengers can walk up to a stop and learn (in real time) the bus routes that serve that location and when the next bus is coming. These e-ink (also known as e-paper) digital signs reflect light like a sheet of paper and, unlike other types of digital screens, have the same appearance as paper, so as not to be a visual deterrent or distraction to motorists and neighbors. WOOD RIVER —The Wood River Police Department and the Wood River Fire Department responded to a domestic incident on Monday night at the intersection of Ninth Street and Madison Avenue. Police Chief Brad Wells confirmed that the incident was domestic-related, noting that the individuals involved do not reside at the location and that it was not a random occurrence. However, Chief Wells did not provide further details regarding the specifics of the incident. According to preliminary reports, the victim did not appear to have life-threatening injuries. It remains unclear if any individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the incident. An Alton Memorial Ambulance was seen at the scene. ALTON - A $150,000 agreement for the Alton Midwest Nationals F1 Powerboat Racing Championships to return to the riverfront from 2025 to 2027 is one step closer to getting final approval. Alton Committee of the Whole members on Monday unanimously approved the agreement, sending it to the City Council for a vote this Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024. Their approval followed a presentation from Tim Seebold of Seebold Sports Inc., the company producing the race. Seebold said the next few years of the Alton Midwest Nationals would feature notable changes from the first. One proposed change is to fence off the main viewing area and charge attendees for general admission passes, which were previously free with an option to purchase VIP passes. LOUIS – Lane restrictions will be in effect on eastbound Interstate 55/64 over Trendley Avenue in East St. Louis on December 16 and 17, 2024, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). SHILOH - At 1:47 p.m. on Dec. 12, 2024, Shiloh Police officers conducted a well-being check on a missing person in the 300 block of North Main Street. The missing individual, identified as Vikki L. Thomas, 59, was located driving a vehicle that was subsequently stopped, leading to the detention of all occupants. During a probable cause search of the vehicle, officers discovered a controlled substance. As a result, both females in the vehicle were taken into custody for outstanding warrants and possession of a controlled substance. The following day, St. Clair County Assistant State's Attorney Beth Nester issued two warrants against Thomas: one for Possession of a Controlled Substance Except (A)/(D), classified as a Class 4 Felony, and another for Obstructing Identification, a Class A Misdemeanor. WOOD RIVER - A woman from Wood River and a man from East Alton were both charged with attempted armed robbery after luring a victim out of their home and pointing a firearm at them. Tyler M. Cunningham, 22, of East Alton, and Brooke C. Wiegand, 20, of Wood River, were both charged with attempted armed robbery, both Class 1 felonies. Cunningham was additionally charged with unlawful possession of weapons by a felon, a Class 3 felony. On Dec. 11, 2024, Cunningham and Wiegand allegedly attempted a robbery while armed with a Bryco Model 49 9mm handgun, according to court documents. Cunningham’s possession of the pistol was unlawful as he had previously been convicted of unlawful possession of a controlled substance in a 2023 Madison County case. Cunningham’s criminal history also includes several other charges in Madison County dating back to 2020, including burglary, drug possession, probation violation, and more.
