Giannoulias Announces IDs In Apple Wallet Will Be Coming to Illinois

SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Secretary of State‘s office is working to bring IDs in Apple Wallet to Illinois residents in the future with the goal of launching by the end of the year, Secretary Alexi Giannoulias announced today. This capability will enable residents to seamlessly and securely add and present their driver’s licenses and state IDs in person and in apps using their iPhone or Apple Watch. The news follows legislation that took effect at the beginning of the year, which enabled the Secretary of State’s office to begin this work. Alton Man Dies After Dog Attack At Home On Jan. 10, 2025

ALTON - Madison County Coroner Nicholas P. Novacich has identified an Alton male who died on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025, after being mauled by a dog inside his residence. The victim is identified as Robert W. Echols, 53, Lovejoy Lane, Alton. Echols resided at the residence with his brother. The coroner said Echols was outside and when he tried to enter the residence, the dog attempted to attack him. The decedent’s brother was able to exit the residence and contacted a neighbor who allowed him to use his phone to call 911 for help. The 911 call was reported at 4:53 p.m., Friday, Jan. 10, 2025. The coroner said Echols was pronounced deceased at 6:18 p.m., Jan. 10, 2025, by Madison County Coroner’s Office Investigator Kelsey Jones. Bob Watson's Legacy Will Have Lasting Influence On Generations Of Students And Leaders

BRIGHTON — Robert "Bob" Laverne Watson, an influential attorney and long-serving member of the Lewis and Clark Community College Board, died on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the age of 87. He was born on Oct. 13, 1937, in Jerseyville. Watson lost his sight at the age of six. He attended the Illinois Braille and Sight Saving School, now known as the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired, in Jacksonville. He later graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois. He served as an inspiration for many others in the area who were blind. Watson began his legal career working for the State Department in Washington, D.C., before returning to Illinois to work for the Illinois Attorney General. In 1972, he opened his own law office in Brighton, later establishing a branch in Bunker Hill. Over a career spanning more than six decades, he served as the Village of Brighton’s attorney for 51 years and was a member of the Lewis and Clark Community College Board of Trustees
