All 13 District #7 Schools Earn Commendable Designation on 2024 Illinois Report Card

EDWARDSVILLE - The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released the annual Illinois Report Card at www.illinoisreportcard.com today. The Report Card shows how schools are progressing on a wide range of educational goals. One component of the School Report Card is the annual summative designation – a descriptor of how well our schools are meeting the needs of all students. The designations recognize schools with strong overall performance across a range of academic and student success indicators. There are five designations a school can receive – Exemplary, Commendable, Targeted Support, Comprehensive Support, or Intensive Support. All 13 of District #7’s schools received a COMMENDABLE designation by the State of Illinois. Areas that stood out on this year’s School Report Card include: In academic proficiency, students scored 35.7 percent for math compared to the state average of 27.9; 64.8 for science compared to the state average of 52.7 percent;

Godfrey Women's Club Fundraises at Christmas Carousel Event

GODFREY - The Godfrey Women’s Club hosted their annual Christmas Carousel fundraiser. On Oct. 30, 2024, community members could shop and dine with the Godfrey Women’s Club at Lewis and Clark Community College. Club President Jennifer Wyatt explained that the Christmas Carousel is the club’s main fundraiser, and they use the proceeds to better the Godfrey community. “It’s our main mission as a club to beautify Godfrey, to make Godfrey a better place to live,” Wyatt said. Christmas Carousel attendees could shop the Christmas decor, enter raffles, and enjoy a sit-down lunch from caterer Nicky G’s Italian Eats. Madison County: Westbound I-270 Lane Closures Begin Nov. 1 Near Granite City

GRANITE CITY – The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that repairs to westbound Interstate 270 between Illinois 3 and Riverview Drive in Missouri will require one lane to be closed starting, weather permitting, at 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1. One lane will remain open. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during this closure. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone. Hollow Avenue Phase 2 Continues With Jerseyville City Council Approval

JERSEYVILLE - Jerseyville City Council members on Tuesday unanimously passed a series of resolutions related to the ongoing Phase 2 Hollow Avenue Improvement Project. Mayor Kevin Stork said passing these resolutions was the “first step in the next phase of Hollow.” He said the project’s second phase will see roadway improvements extend to Waggoner Lane. City Council members approved an “acceptance of appraisals/appraisal reviews for the easement/right-of-way parcels” for the project, the first of three related resolutions passed on Tuesday. City Attorney William Strang said the appraisal process is part of the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) procedure to receive funding for the roadway improvements. The council also approved “land acquisition fees for easement/right-of-way parcels” for the project. Stutz Construction is collaborating with SMS Engineering for this initiative, which addresses longstanding challenges faced by pedestrians crossing near local establishments such as the Grafton Pub, Grafton Winery, and Third Chute. The intersection has been particularly difficult for both pedestrians and drivers, especially during peak weekend traffic. The project is expected to take approximately 30 days to complete. During this time, motorists and pedestrians are advised to remain vigilant, as there will be a flag person on site and potential changes to traffic patterns. Rezoning For 'The Diner' Gets Jerseyville City Council Approval

JERSEYVILLE - Jerseyville City Council members quickly and unanimously approved a resolution changing the zoning classification for a property commonly known as “The Diner." Located at 111 Dorothy St. behind the Jerseyville Walgreens, the restaurant and bar announced last month it had undergone a change in ownership. Tuesday’s meeting documents reveal the new owners as Pearley and Wreatha Hanold, who submitted the rezoning petition. The reclassification was described as merely a “formality” to get the new owners set up with the proper zoning. The resolution’s passage will see the land’s zoning classification change from B-3 to B-3 with Special Use for Alcohol. The City Council unanimously passed a motion approving the Hanolds’ petition to rezone The Diner. Mayor Kevin Stork wished them both “good luck” as the new owners of the business.

HARDIN - On Oct. 21, 2024, at approximately 6:10 PM, a Deputy with the Calhoun County Sheriff's conducted a traffic stop on Illinois Route 100, south of Poor Farm Hollow, in Hardin, Calhoun County, Illinois. As a result of the traffic stop, Joshua M. Kronable, age 40, of Brussels, Illinois was arrested for the following offenses: • Possession of Methamphetamine (Less than 5 Grams), • Driving While License Suspended, • Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Kronable was arrested without incident and transported to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office. As is now required under the provisions of the new House Bill 3653, known as the SAFE-T Act; Kronable was booked and released with a Notice to Appear at a later date at the Calhoun County Courthouse. All suspect(s) are innocent until proven guilty.

EDWARDSVILLE - Junior blocker Avery Simaytis was a key player for Metro East Lutheran High's girls' volleyball squad this season. Avery's specialty is blocking. She is a BJ's Printables Female Athlete Of Month for the Knights. Her goals for herself and the Knights this season were very much straightforward. "My personal goals were to be strong at blocking," Simaytis said. "I think I did a fine job last year, but I thought I could improve this season." Simaytis believes that the defensive part of the Knights' game was very comparable to other teams in the region and state. Simaytis viewed her main role with the team this season as a now-older player who provided guidance and leadership to her teammates and younger players. "My role on the team, last year, I was one of the youngest," Simaytis said, "and now, I'm one of the oldest. So it's definitely different. But, I tried to be to be more of a leader." She said overall, volleyball is her favorite season as an athlete.
