Nonn: Human Skeletal Remains Found On Old Chemetco Industrial Plant Property

HARTFORD - Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn is reporting today a coordinated investigation along with Hartford and Wood River Police Departments into the recovery of human skeletal remains on the property of the old Chemetco Industrial Plant, 3754 Chemetco Lane in Hartford. Nonn said the remains were found Thursday afternoon and the Madison County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene at the request of the Hartford and Wood River Police Departments. Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit also responded and assisted in the search of the area. "The remains were confirmed to be human by Coroner’s Investigator Kelsey Jones and death was pronounced at 3:45 p.m.," Nonn said. "Clothing and other property were recovered. The skeletonized remains were discovered by a person who was doing aerial mapping of the property and promptly reported his finding to local law enforcement." Laila Blakeny is the daughter of Kirk and Tanisha Blakeny. Laila is a senior at Alton High School. She wants to thank the Rotary Club for allowing her to be a Rotary student of the month. At a young age, her family taught her the importance of education. Since kindergarten, she has been on the high honor roll and was inducted into the National Honors Society. She plans on continuing this streak in college. In her free time she plays basketball. She’s been playing basketball for the past 12 years, starting at the age of 6. Motorist Rolls Vehicle Over On Riverlands Way And Wise Road In West Alton

WEST ALTON - An area motorist avoided serious injury in a crash where his 2011 Chevrolet Equinox overturned Wednesday on Riverlands Way east of Wise Road. The initial call to first responders sounded serious, Rivers Pointe Fire Chief Richard Bender said. He said the call to them came at 7:49 p.m. on Wednesday. “It was a one-vehicle rollover,” he said. “Thankfully, the man escaped serious injury, but he was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation at Christian Northeast Hospital.” The Missouri State Highway Patrol report said the man ran off the left side of the roadway, struck a culvert, and overturned.

ISP Releases Final Victim's Name From 72-Vehicle Fatal Crash On I-55

FARMERSVILLE – The Illinois State Police (ISP) is releasing the final name of the seven people fatally injured in multiple crashes that occurred on May 1, 2023 at approximately 10:55 a.m. on both northbound and southbound Interstate 55 between mile markers 72 and 78, near Farmersville in Montgomery County. Otto Medina-Salazar, 58-year-old from Carthage, MO was fatally injured in the crash. A total of 72 vehicles are known to be involved in the crashes and 37 people were transported to area hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to critical. There were seven fatalities in the crashes, including the following names previously released. Haine Announces 78-Year Sentence For Execution Style Murder Outside Granite City Tire Shop

EDWARDSVILLE - Madison County State’s Attorney Thomas A. Haine announced a 78-year prison sentence Thursday for a killer in what prosecutors described as an execution in broad daylight outside a tire shop. The sentence was handed to 33-year-old Fred W. Williams Jr., who fired multiple close-range shots at an acquaintance, Delas M. Carter, 30, of Alorton. The shooting happened outside a Granite City tire shop where Carter was employed. 20-Year-Old Alton Man Dies After Shooting In 1600 Block Of Rock Springs Drive

ALTON - Alton Police Chief Jarrett Ford has released the name of the victim in the shooting in the 1600 block of Rock Springs Drive in Alton on Wednesday night. Ford identified the victim as Tyrone M. Williams, 20, of Alton, and he later died as a result of his injuries at an area hospital. The Alton Police Department received a report of a shooting at 7:34 p.m. Wednesday and the police and fire departments both responded immediately. Ford said when officers arrived, they discovered one male subject who had been shot with a firearm. The victim was transported to a local hospital by the Alton Fire Department and later transferred to a St. Louis area hospital for further treatment where he died from the injuries. Illinois 3 Lane Closures in Madison County Begin May 15

GRANITE CITY – The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced pavement repairs on Illinois 3 from New Poag Road to the McKinley Bridge will require intermittent lane closures, weather permitting, starting at 5:30 a.m. on Monday, May 15. One lane in each direction will remain open at all times. All southbound lanes will be open weekdays from 6-9 a.m. and all northbound lanes will be open weekdays from 3-6 p.m. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone. The project is expected to be complete by mid-June.
