Schools, businesses, and churches in the St. Louis region have canceled classes and made schedule changes due to a major winter storm that dropped more than six inches of snow and brought extreme cold to the area.

Residents were greeted Sunday morning to several inches of snow blanketing Missouri and Illinois.

A winter storm system sweeping through a large portion of the country has brought bitterly cold temperatures and heavy snowfall to the St. Louis area this weekend.
