The American economy boomed in 2021, and job growth followed suit. But it still wasn't enough to get employment back to pre-pandemic levels. Nonfarm employment rose 4.4% between December 2020 and December 2021, according to new data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That represents an increase of nearly 6.3 million jobs. The University of Missouri-St. Louis could host on its campus the recreation facility that's at the heart of a dispute over funding for an expansion of the downtown St. Louis convention center. The St. Louis area will be the home of a new area code later this year, the 557 area code. The existing 314 area code is currently used for St. Louis, Overland, Bridgeton, Florissant, Webster Groves, Creve Coeur, Kirkwood and other nearby jurisdictions, but the number of new 314 numbers that can be issued is running low.
