The quake’s epicenter was near the San Andreas Fault, a notorious geological boundary responsible for much of California’s seismic activity. The earthquake’s shaking lasted less than a minute, but the destruction it caused was catastrophic. Buildings crumbled, bridges collapsed, and essential infrastructure was severely damaged.
