Starting Monday, the City of St. Louis will stop issuing new city construction contracts under its Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) goals, due to new federal guidance that threatens to withhold or eliminate funding for cities that maintain such programs, according to the mayor's office.

Godfrey Celebrates New Dog Park Opening

GODFREY - Community members and their dogs enjoyed the grand opening of the Godfrey dog park. On Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, Village of Godfrey officials and residents celebrated the new dog park at Glazebrook Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Mayor Mike McCormick thanked Beth Heinz, who helped fund and advocate for the park, and expressed his excitement for the village’s newest amenity. “Once Beth walked into my office, I knew we were going to have a dog park, and I want to thank her for that,” McCormick said. “I think this is a nice addition to the Village of Godfrey.” McCormick thanked Jim Lewis and the Public Works Department for their commitment to building the dog park. He also thanked Liz Campbell, who helped connect Beth to the Village of Godfrey. Beth Heinz worked hard to make the dog park a reality in honor of her late father-in-law, Max Heinz. Duckworth, Durbin Join Colleagues to Urge Administration to Reinstate EPA Employees Retaliated Against for Exercising Free Speech Rights

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) joined U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and 14 of their colleagues in pressing Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin to reinstate employees placed on administrative leave after they signed a “Declaration of Dissent” expressing concern with the agency’s direction under the Trump Administration. In their letter, the Senators stress that employees have the legal right to speak out on matters of public concern in their personal capacities under the First Amendment, as affirmed by the Supreme Court. “We write to you with deep concerns regarding recent reporting that you placed more than 140 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) employees on administrative leave after they signed a ‘Declaration of Dissent’ on June 30, 2025.
