2 years 5 months ago
GILLESPIE - Community members are invited to visit with residents and get their sugar fix at the annual trunk-or-treat at Gillespie Health & Rehab Center. From 5–8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023, kids can stop by the facility’s parking lot at 7588 Staunton Road in Gillespie. Staff members will be parked and waiting with candy, popcorn, cotton candy and “little trinkets,” said Activity Director Jolynn Hemken. The community is then invited to walk through the halls of the facility and trick-or-treat with residents. “The residents just love the kids,” Hemken said. That kid would be middle-aged by now, probably with teenage kids of his own, and here he would be on this night facing a full-circle moment.

Boardwalk Waffles Closes Final Location in South County

2 years 5 months ago
The last outpost of the Boardwalk Waffles empire has shuttered. A visit to the ice cream and waffle spot's former south county location at 4348 Telegraph Road found it to be closed and without its former signage. Eric Moore opened his first Boardwalk Waffles & Ice Cream in Maplewood in 2017, and the idea of a scoop of ice cream served atop a waffle seemed to be a hit.
