A former clerk admitted yesterday in federal court in St. Louis that she stole almost a half-million dollars from the small, cash-strapped north county municipality where she was employed. Maureen Woodson, 68, pleaded guilty to mail and wire fraud. From February 2016 to April 2022, Woodson and then-assistant city clerk Donna Thompson wrote more than 600 checks to themselves without the knowledge of other city officials, whose signatures they regularly forged on the checks.

EDWARDSVILLE — Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine on Monday announced that his office has filed charges of predatory criminal sexual assault against a defendant who, if convicted, faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison. Prosecutors charged Brok A. Weigand, 33, of South Roxana with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, one count of attempted predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of criminal sexual assault. The counts of predatory criminal sexual assault are the most serious of the charges – class X felonies. Those counts carry a mandatory sentence of life in prison because they involve two separate victims. Dispensaries around Missouri sold more than $8 million worth of recreational marijuana in the first weekend since the state legalized it for adult use, the state's health department said.
According to the state's cannabis regulation page, recreational marijuana sales totaled $8,500,900 from Friday to Sunday. Another $4,189,065 in medical marijuana was also sold in the state over the weekend.

Automakers whose vehicles have been targeted by thieves inspired by social media challenges confirm to KSDK that they are testing software upgrades that could stop their cars from being stolen and intend to provide them to drivers at no cost.
Both automakers are the focus of a class-action lawsuit claiming the vehicles were defective because certain models built before 2020 did not have an immobilizing device that would prevent the car from starting if keys were not near the vehicle.
