Hate Crimes In Missouri Rose Nearly 70 Percent in 2021

The number of hate crime incidents reported to law enforcement agencies in Missouri jumped by almost 70 percent in 2021 with the majority of incidents associated with victims' race, according to new data released by the FBI today. Last year, 119 Missourians reported they were targeted for their race, ethnicity or ancestry, up from only 76 race-related hate crimes in 2020. “This spike is alarming regardless of whether there were more incidents or because more victims were willing to report it,” Special Agent in Charge Jay Greenberg of the FBI St. Louis said in a statement.

Cinema St. Louis To Purchase Iconic Hi-Pointe Theatre

In a bit of exciting news for film buffs and fans of the classic moviegoing experience, Cinema St. Louis has announced today that it’s planning to purchase the Hi-Pointe Theatre (1005 McCausland Avenue, 314-995-6273). The arts nonprofit, best-known for hosting the annual St. Louis International Film Festival, will make the Hi-Pointe its base of operations starting in January. According to a press release, Cinema St. Louis intends to use the space to "create cinematic experiences that enrich, educate, entertain, and build community."

Four Gillespie Cheerleaders Have "Experience Of A Lifetime" As Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade Participants

HONOLULU, HAWAII - Four Gillespie High School senior cheerleaders recently had the times of their lives when they were selected by the American Cheerleading Association (ACA) as All-Americans and participated in the 2022 Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade, held in Honolulu, Hawaii. The girls and their coach, Darian Gill, flew 4,000 miles to join cheerleaders from all over the country and take part in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade. The girls and their coach were able to experience the Pearl Harbor Memorial, go on a picnic with other parade attendees, and were invited to a luau. The four seniors chosen were Hailey Rhodes, Megan Rife, Jenna Clark, and Shelbee Geisler. The girls and their coach would like to thank everyone who helped them fundraise and supported them in their effort. Arch Grants, the St. Louis nonprofit that provides equity-free grants to startups, is giving a second round of funding to three of its portfolio companies.
