Bob Case celebrates the start of Mardi Gras season with a King Cake Show at Blue Strawberry on January 4th.
In New Orleans, King Cake is served on January 6, the feast of Epiphany, the last of the 12 days of Christmas and the conclusion of the season’s festivities. Epiphany is the official start of Carnival season in New Orleans (and around the world,) culminating weeks later in Marci Gras. The day commemorates the visit of the Three Kings to Bethlehem to visit the infant Jesus. Known in France as La Fete des Rois, the feast features a Kings’ Cake (Galette des Rois). A fava bean or ceramic figurine is baked inside the cake, and the person who receives the piece with the bean or figurine is recognized as the King or the Queen, invited to wear a crown and lead a toast in celebration – and buy the King Cake for next year!
This celebration in song and story will be led by honorary king Bob Case, longtime veteran of Mardi Gras celebrations, for which he is very well known.$10 Cover
