St. Louis County Identifies Victim In Homicide On Chambers Road In Moline Acres

ST. LOUIS COUNTY - St. Louis County Police Department Crimes Against Persons detectives are investigating a homicide in the 2400 block of Chambers Road in the City of Moline Acres and the deceased has been identified as Daijion Miller, 28 years of age, of the 1200 block of Kilgore Drive in St. Louis, Missouri 63137. City of Moline Acres police officers responded to a call for service for a shooting in the 2400 block of Chambers Road. Responding officers located an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot injuries. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene. Preliminary investigation has revealed the shooting occurred at another unidentified location. The male drove himself to this location. Madison County: Eastbound I-270 Lane Closures Begin Jan. 5, 2024

GRANITE CITY – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that repairs on eastbound Interstate 270 between Illinois 3 and Riverview Drive in Missouri will require lane closures starting, weather permitting, at 9 p.m., Friday, Jan. 5. One lane will always remain open. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 8. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during this closure. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, be alert for changing conditions, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone. Hayner Library to Display Authentic Letter Written by Abraham Lincoln to Alton Resident

ALTON - On Saturday, Feb. 17, 2023, the Hayner Public Library District will display a real letter written by Abraham Lincoln to an Alton resident. Director Mary Cordes explained that the library has owned this letter for many decades, but it’s usually stored in their safe deposit box. Crimes Rates Down In St. Louis - Mayor Jones, Commissioner Tracy Share Highlights From Year-End Data

Crime data reveal a 21% reduction in murders (158 in 2023 compared to 200 in 2022); a 24% reduction in shooting incidents (550 in 2023 compared to 722 in 2022); and a 23% reduction in shooting victims (631 in 2023 compared to 821 in 2022). Throughout the year, the different departments also raise funds for the Annual Shop With A Hero Program at Christmas time. Once again Granite City Police Department's Annual Shop With A Hero Program was an extraordinary success. In 2023, 27 Granite City area youth were either provided gifts or taken shopping. Lt. Aggravated Battery Of A Child, Stolen Firearm, Other Charges Filed In Jersey County

JERSEYVILLE - Several charges including aggravated battery of a child, possession of a stolen firearm, and more have been filed in Jersey County over the past week, according to recent court filings. Christian A. McKennon, 26, of Jerseyville, was charged with aggravated battery of a child less than 13 years of age causing great bodily harm. Court documents state McKennon “struck in the face with his hand” on or about April 20, 2023. McKennon faces a Class 3 felony for the aggravated battery charge. He was issued a summons to appear at the Jersey County Courthouse for his preliminary hearing, which is set for 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 22, 2024. Austyn D. Chmieleski, 18, of Jerseyville, was also charged with aggravated battery of a child less than 13 years of age causing great bodily harm. Court documents allege that on or about Nov. 27, 2023, he “touched in an inappropriate manner.” Chmieleski faces a Class 3 felony for the aggravated battery charge.

Smith is not only a strong contributor with points, but she is also one of the assist leaders for the squad and is always solid on defense. Smith is a Sparklight Internet Female Athlete of the Month for Jersey Community High School. Head Jersey Girls Basketball Coach Caleb Williams said Ella handles the ball well. "Ella can spark our offense with her shooting ability and defensively, she is very tough," the coach said. Smith is also a striker/forward for the Jersey girls' soccer team in the spring and a varsity volleyball player.
