Slusser and Andreas Capture Madison County Treasurer and County Clerk Races In Republican Primary

MADISON COUNTY - Chris Slusser recorded an overwhelming triumph in the Madison County Treasurer’s race over Doug Hulme in the Republican Primary. Slusser won with 14,794 votes compared to Hulme's 6,954 votes. Linda Andreas defeated Mike Walters in the Republican Primary for County Clerk by a narrow 10,329 to 10,154-vote margin with all 191 precincts counted. Slusser said he just wanted to thank the Republican voters in the primary who put their trust in him. “I think I have done a good job in the office and shown integrity and tried to do everything with excellence,” he added. “I was rewarded by confident Republican voters who soundly rejected an ugly campaign by the opponent.” Slusser credited his staff with their effort to make him shine on a daily basis to the public. “They are government employees who take a lot of pride in their work,” he said. “The taxpayers recognize what they have done. Connor Dominates Madison County Sheriff's Race With Big Win Over Larner

MADISON COUNTY - Jeff Connor dominated the Madison County Republican Party Sheriff’s Primary race with a 14,619 to 7,243-vote victory over Jeff Larner on Tuesday night. There was not a Democrat on the ballot for sheriff. Connor was interviewed after the ballots were counted at a post-election gathering and said he and his running mate Marcos Pulido as chief deputy sheriff both were “ecstatic” with the win. “The team is so thankful the residents of Madison County had faith in me,” Connor said. “We are ready to move forward and do what we can to make the Sheriff’s Office better than ever before. “I think Madison County residents realize experience does count. Residents and voters recognized that and sent a loud message. I am proud of our experience and will use that experience to make the sheriff’s office the best it can be. "I am so excited for Marcos Pulido (the Alton Police Chief) to also come on board on December 1.”

Ss. Peter and Paul Church In Alton Kicks Off Capital Campaign For Renovation

ALTON - Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Alton is a beautiful reminder of the past and has been in the city since 1855. Now, the church structure is in need of Old Cathedral repairs and renovation and is embarking on a large capital campaign that hopes to raise an estimated $800,000. The capital campaign is set to restore the structure of the church with much-needed repairs in the stonework and tuckpointing and much more. “Preserving the Past for the Future Campaign” will help bring an integral part of Christian Hill to future generations to continue the Catholic tradition. A kickoff of the campaign is planned for Wednesday night at the church. A Mass is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Saints Peter and Paul Church, followed by a picnic at 7 p.m. and Hanlon's film about the campaign will be shown afterward, he said. Jersey County Wraps Up Historic Primary Election

JERSEYVILLE - The results of the 2022 Jersey County Primary Election have officially been announced. The county will see its first new nominee for County Coroner in nearly 30 years as several new party nominees are set to compete in the Midterm Elections this November. Voters nominated Kevin Ayres for Jersey County Coroner, the first time a new candidate has been nominated for the office since the passing of Jersey County’s longest-serving coroner in history, Larry Joe Alexander, who served as coroner for 29 years from 1992-2021. Ayres won with 50.34% of the vote over Republican challenger Collin Crawford, who won 49.66% of the vote. Katie Steckel-Abbey won the Republican nomination for Jersey County Treasurer with 48.84% of the vote. Steckel-Abbey replaced incumbent Republican Gilbert Ashlock and beat challengers Gregory “Greg” Weiner, who won 28.19% of the vote and Martin "Marty" Ward, who won 24.96% of the vote.
