GLEN CARBON - Phase 1 of the development of Orchard Town Center in Glen Carbon is officially complete, and village trustees gave the project’s first phase their official approval at this week’s meeting. Phase 1 mainly included traffic improvements on the north side of the site and the center’s initial tenants, while Phase 2 will include a pocket park, additional tenants, and more. Phase 1 traffic improvements were completed along Plum Street, Governor’s Parkway, and Troy Road, including both entrances to Chick-Fil-A, the site’s first tenant which was steadily busy even before both entrances were open. Phase 1 also included work on the interior roadways, stormwater drainage, as well as securing tenants like Olive Garden and Plaza Tire Service, which are nearing completion themselves. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is reaching out to the public for help in identifying a poacher who illegally shot and killed a bull elk near Klepzi Mill in Shannon County over the past weekend. A local deer hunter made the discovery and told MDC of the incident.

Workers at all eight unionized Starbucks in the St. Louis area plan to go on strike on Thursday, November 16 — and that could spell big problems for the coffee behemoth. In a press release announcing their plans, the workers note that they've planned their strike for Red Cup Day, when the coffee giant hands out free reusable cups and is often one of the busiest days of the year for Starbucks. They call it the Red Cup Rebellion, and it's part of a bigger movement, with strikes planned for November 16 across the U.S.

GLEN CARBON - Glen Carbon Police Chief Todd Link recently gave a presentation on the importance of police wellness to the Glen Carbon Village Board of Trustees at their meeting this week. He said the health and safety of the village depends on the health and safety of its police officers. “My job, in short, is to make sure that I protect the lives and property of all the residents in our village,” Link said. “To do that, I must first lead the way for wellness in our police staff.” The chief said the term “Police Wellness” applies not only to sworn police officers, but also to the more than 40 dispatchers and other civilian employees within the department.
