ALTON – An Alton man accused of fleeing from police over the Clark Bridge and a St. Louis man who evaded pursuit face felony charges in separate Madison County cases. Michael D. Bass, 39, of Alton, was charged on Nov. 13, 2025, with one count each of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer and driving while license is revoked, both Class 4 felonies. Missouri's attorney general has asked the State Department to notify China that the state is attempting to seize Chinese-owned properties to collect on a nearly $25 billion court judgment. The move comes after a federal judge ruled earlier this year that China hoarded personal protective equipment during the pandemic, harming Missouri. China called the lawsuit "very absurd" and did not participate in the trial. Some legal experts doubt Missouri can collect the judgment.
