2 years 8 months ago

In 2020, amid the worst wave of violent crime in almost 15 years, Missouri lawmakers set up a new witness protection program proponents said would break down barriers of silence that left perpetrators unpunished. But since its creation, the program has gone almost unused. Despite being authorized to spend $2 million annually, only $14,647 has […]

EU ISPs Join US ISPs In Demanding ‘Big Tech’ Give Them Billions For No Coherent Reason

2 years 8 months ago
Earlier this year, we noted how FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr had launched a bad faith effort suggesting that “big tech” gets a “free ride” on the internet, and should be forced to fund broadband expansion. Carr’s argument, that companies like Google and Netflix somehow get a free ride (they don’t) and should “pay their fair share” (they […]

2 years 8 months ago
Protests are being planned, predictions are being made and sadness is spreading across political leaders as news that three high profile leaders of the Black caucus have been indicted on multiple counts of bribery and wire fraud. St. Louis Board of Alderman President Lewis Reed told KSDK’s Mark Maxwell on Thursday, just moments after Reed was indicted for three federal crimes that could land him a maximum of 15 years in prison, that he has no plans of resigning. Remembering Daniel Flier, the Patron Saint of the LGBTQ+ Community

2 years 8 months ago
In 2014, my editor at the LGBTQ publication Vital Voice sent me to interview St. Louis Effort for AIDS co-founder and 1982 Miss Gay Missouri America Daniel Flier, a.k.a. Vanessa Vincent. While Flier was kind, humble and very approachable, he was an intimidating assignment. I was more of a gossip columnist and often at odds with the community, while Flier was the embodiment of “community.” He was someone who carried our people during our darkest chapter, a patron saint.

Fire Department Teaches CPR to Local Students

2 years 8 months ago
COLLINSVILLE – Following the receipt of a grant for 12 CPR training mannequins with feedback devices from Illinois Heart Rescue, Collinsville firefighters took the opportunity to go into local schools to teach CPR. Firefighter Nick Klucker secured the grant and is leading this effort. The focus of this grant is to provide Bystander CPR (BCRP). BCRP includes recognizing a problem (the victim does not respond to their name or if touched and is not breathing or not breathing normally), to call 911, send for an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and to push hard and fast in the center of the chest until help arrives, then turn on the AED and follow the prompts. BCPR can double or triple the survival for victims suffering cardiac arrest. For every minute that a victim of sudden cardiac arrest does not receive CPR their chance of death increases by 10 percent. That means if no BCRP is performed within 10 minutes, the victim has a 0 percent chance of survival. The sooner BCRP is
