The incident took place around 10 a.m. on November 5, 2024, when several tons of dirt and small trees cascaded down the hillside. In the aftermath, some small power lines were broken, prompting a response from Ameren Illinois. The slide had significant physical effects, moving an aerial lift approximately 30 feet and causing a hole to form in a diesel tank. Ameren Illinois remained at the scene later Tuesday morning to continue to repair the lines and ensure the area was safe.

LOUIS COUNTY - St. Louis County police responded early Tuesday to a flash flood incident at Bayless Avenue and Interstate 55 in St. Louis County, where a submerged SUV led to the discovery of a deceased adult female inside the vehicle. At approximately 6 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, officers from the South County Precinct were dispatched following reports of significant flooding in the area. Due to adverse weather conditions, Bayless Avenue was closed for several hours as first responders worked to manage the situation. As floodwaters began to recede, a business owner notified police about the submerged SUV. Personnel from the Lemay Fire Protection District accessed the vehicle and discovered the body of the woman. EDWARDSVILLE — A two-vehicle crash involving two truck-tractor semi-trailers on Interstate 55 southbound near milepost 27 resulted in one person being transported with injuries at 10:47 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024. The Illinois State Police (ISP) Troop 8 responded to the scene, about two miles south of the Homestead Rest Stop. According to a preliminary investigation, the circumstances surrounding the crash are still under review. ST. LOUIS - Crime continued to decrease in St. Louis in October, new data released by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department show, with homicides being at the lowest levels seen in years. As of Nov. 4, St. Louis has seen 125 homicides so far this year. That’s down from 142 at that time last year, 170 at that time in 2022, 168 at that time in 2021, and 220 at this time in 2020. WOOD RIVER - The Wood River Fire Department is getting a $740,000 demo pumper truck as it awaits a replacement for a previous pumper truck that was totaled in a fire. City Council members approved the purchase at this week's meeting, where a new Probationary Firefighter was also sworn in. Fire Chief Wade Stahlhut explained the department’s previous pumper truck caught fire and was deemed “totaled” by the insurance company. Stahlhut said a new pumper truck was ordered in November of 2022, but isn’t expected to arrive until June of 2025, creating an “absence” in the department’s fleet. Stahlhut said most manufacturers are experiencing delays of three to five years to get orders fulfilled. Because of this, he said the new truck will come with an additional year of its bumper-to-bumper warranty. TROY — The tragic story of Leslie Reeves, a beloved Troy community member and owner of All About You Studio, was featured in an episode of CBS’s “48 Hours” on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024. Reeves was murdered in the early hours of Thanksgiving in 2021 during a first date with Chris Smith in Farmersville, Illinois, who was also shot but survived. Fahnestock, who has played soccer for 12 years, credits his success to a strong support system, including his parents, coaches, and teammates.
