Jason Kander's new book explores journey to 'post-traumatic growth'

Roughly two years after he came close to unseating U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, Jason Kander found himself checking into a Veterans Administration facility to get help for post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. A day later, he would go public about leaving electoral politics to tend to his mental health — a journey Kander recounts in vivid and often startling detail in his new book, “Invisible Storm: A Soldier’s Memoir of Politics and PTSD.”

IDOT: Illinois Route 109 Open Again Friday After Box Culvert Work

JERSEY - The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced Illinois Route 109 between Dow Road and Bethel Lane has reopened. Joe Monroe, an IDOT Operations supervisor, confirmed the road opened earlier on Friday, July 8, 2022. Monroe said the closure that started on June 27, 2022, was done to construct a new box culvert. The road had been completely closed.

Sheriff's Office Captain Kris Tharp Sworn In To Represent 56th District As State Senator

WOOD RIVER – Kris Tharp, a captain and jail administrator for the Madison County Sheriff’s Office with nearly 25 years of law enforcement experience and a life-long volunteer in the Metro East, was sworn in to represent Illinois’ 56th Senate District Friday. “I’m truly honored and humbled by this entire experience,” said Tharp (D-Bethalto). “We have a lot of important issues to explore this year, and I’m eager to serve the residents of the 56th District in this new role as a state senator.” Tharp has worked through the ranks of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and dedicated his life to improving public safety for communities throughout the Metro East. In addition to his roles as a captain and jail administrator, Tharp serves as a Deputy Commander for the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis.
