'Curiosities' is the latest in a series of collections by the self-taught fiber artist, who’s created everything from textured landscapes to watercolor-style botanicals in thread.
The business is buoyed by contemporary tastes: The Tuscan architectural style of exposed wooden beams has created demand, and so has the desire for what’s known as “barnwood,” the kind with saw marks and other signs of wear.
“I have work hanging that is actually touching each other. It’s full because I’m not really decorating with the art," says Slein. "I’m living with it and I’m collecting it and I want to be able to see as much of it as possible."
