Bob Dylan was one of the many A-list stars who took part in the 1985 charity single "We Are the World," but according to Lionel Richie, who co-wrote the song, he didn’t…
Watching Origin, the mind-stirring new film from writer-director Ava DuVernay, I found myself leaning forward, the way you do when a friend you haven’t seen in a long time relates an intensely personal tale of loss or love or both. University students no doubt do the same when Isabel Wilkerson, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and historian portrayed in the film by Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, stands before them, lecturing.
GODFREY - Phase 1 of the F.E. Widman bike/pedestrian trail project in Godfrey is officially moving forward after the Village Board at their meeting this week unanimously approved advertising the project for bids. Juneau Associates Inc., the village’s project consultant, has finally received formal direction on tree removal/mitigation for the project after waiting for a Natural Resources Review for nearly three years, according to a memorandum from the Village Engineering Department. The St. Louis area sees another surge of bitterly cold air arriving overnight through Saturday. Dangerously cold wind chills for some and minor snow accumulation.
We’ve noted numerous times how U.S. communities are increasingly tired of substandard, expensive broadband caused by market failure, so they’re building their own broadband networks at a record pace. These efforts take a wide variety of forms, whether it’s via a local cooperative, a collection of municipalities, or a city owned utility (see Chattanooga’s huge […]
The bitter feud between a vocal minority of Senate Republicans and the majority of the GOP caucus erupted Thursday into a fit of name-calling and allegations that certain lawmakers hoped to disrupt the regular process of legislation simply to boost their political fortunes.
For almost 11 hours, the intra-party fight kept lawmakers in the Missouri Capitol, a marked contrast to the regular course of business on a Thursday in the Senate when legislators usually head home by the early afternoon.

WASHINGTON — U.S. senators pledged Thursday to press for more funding to research long COVID-19 during a hearing that highlighted patients suffering from the diagnosis as well as experts studying its impacts. “Long COVID stripped away my daughter’s life as she knew it,” said Nicole Heim, the mom of a long COVID patient in Winchester, […]
WASHINGTON — Congress will have until early March to finish work it was supposed to complete last fall — and will avert a partial government shutdown — under a bill both chambers approved with broad bipartisan support Thursday. The 77-18 vote in the Senate and 314-108 vote in the House sent the bill to President Joe Biden, […]
The back edge of the accumulating snow is moving into the northwest metro region as I type here early on Friday morning. Steadier, accumulating snow will continue for another couple of hours, making its way off to the southeast. The winds are causing the snow to blow around quite a bit. Surface temperatures have fallen into the teens to low 20s, which will make for a slick morning commute, especially on side roads.
