IDNR Issues Reminders For 2025-2026 Archery Deer Season
SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is reminding hunters of key dates, regulations, and safety practices for the upcoming archery deer hunting season. Illinois’ statewide archery deer season opens Oct. 1. In counties with a firearm deer season and west of Illinois 47 in Kane County, archery hunting will be open for three periods: Oct. 1 through Nov. 20 Nov. 24 through Dec. 3 Dec. 8 through Jan. 18 Archery deer season runs Oct. 1 through Jan. 18 in counties with no firearm deer season, including Cook, DuPage, Lake, and east of Illinois 47 in Kane County. Restricted archery zone There has been a change to the 2025 restricted archery zone. Only antlered deer may be harvested during the Oct. 1-31 period of the archery season in Champaign, Douglas, Macon and Piatt (except Allerton Park) counties to improve the deer population in those counties. An antlered deer is defined as having at least one antler 3 inches or longer. Moultrie County

CHICAGO – Attorney General Kwame Raoul led a coalition of 12 attorneys general in filing a lawsuit to stop the Trump administration from unlawfully reallocating federal homeland security funding away from states based on their compliance with the administration’s political agenda. Community Members Invited to Free Spiritual Mastery Conversation
ALTON - Community members are invited to learn more about spirituality at a free spiritual wellness experience. A group will gather at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025, at River Bend Yoga in Alton to talk through the topic “The Goal of Spiritual Mastery.” Flora Van Koten and Sheila Aehle, who will lead the discussion, noted that there is no right or final answer that will lead to spiritual mastery, but it’s about embarking on the journey. “The goal is to just keep moving,” Van Koten said. “The benchmark is to do a little bit better today than I did yesterday.” This is the third of a three-part series called “Ancient Wisdom for Today,” though there is no requirement to have attended the other discussions. Metro East Task Force Seeks Help In U-Haul Theft Case
SHILOH — Investigators with the Metro East Auto Theft Task Force attempted to apprehend a person of interest connected to a stolen U-Haul cargo van on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, in the area of 3400 Greenmount Road, Shiloh. According to authorities, the individual entered the stolen vehicle and, when confronted by law enforcement, rammed the van into a police car occupied by an officer before fleeing the scene. The Metro East Auto Theft Task Force is seeking assistance from the public to identify the suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Investigator Phil Fernandez at 618-825-5431. Tips may be submitted anonymously. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Spencer Homes Male Athlete Of Month: Gavin Frey Scores Three Touchdowns In Edwardsville Win
BELLEVILLE - Senior wide receiver Gavin Frey caught perhaps the most important touchdown pass of his career on Sept. 26, 2025, when he took a pass from quarterback Yale Weaver, and fought his way into the end zone from 21 yards out to give Edwardsville a dramatic and big 41-39 win over Belleville East at Charlie Woodford Field. It climaxed an incredible game between the two sides, in which the Lancers came back from being down 35-20 to take a 39-35 lead with less than a minute to go, only to see the Tigers go 80 yards in the final minute to win the game on Frey's touchdown reception. Frey is a Spencer Homes Male Athlete of the Month for the Tigers for his last-second heroics against Belleville East and his performance overall in the contest. It was Frey's third touchdown of the game, in which he caught 12 passes for 206 yards to lead the Edwardsville receivers, having touchdown catches of 65 and 20 yards in the first half. For the season, Frey has a team-leading 30 receptions
Granite City Domestic Battery Cases Involve Elderly, Disabled Victims
GRANITE CITY – Two Granite City men have been charged in separate domestic battery cases with attacking elderly and disabled family/household members. Robert C. Nemeth III, 40, of Granite City, was charged on Sept. 22, 2025 with one count each of aggravated battery (a Class 3 felony) and his second or subsequent offense of domestic battery (a Class 4 felony). On Sept. 21, 2025, Nemeth allegedly pushed a household or family member who was 60 years of age or older, causing the victim to “strike his back against a dresser,” according to charging documents. Nemeth had previously been convicted of domestic battery in 2022, also in Madison County. The latest case against Nemeth was presented by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and he has since been granted pretrial release from custody with additional conditions. Among the conditions imposed on Nemeth’s release are that he have no contact with the victim from this case and remain at least 300 feet
