In the Missouri Senate, where GOP infighting has caused unending gridlock for the last few years, Sen. Cindy O’Laughlin was chosen by her caucus to be president pro tem — the highest ranking job in the chamber.
O’Laughlin, of Shelbina, is the first woman to ever hold that position in Missouri. She previously served as Senate majority leader.

New coffee shop to open in downtown Clayton
A new coffee bar is opening in downtown Clayton next month.
HiFi by Upshot Coffee is planned to open Dec. 1, at 8401 Maryland Ave. at Crandon Drive, with a Japanese-inspired concept.
In a release, the company said the shop will offer "specialty coffee drinks and a thoughtfully curated breakfast and lunch menu in a distinctive Japanese record bar-inspired space complete with a top-notch hi-fi sound system."
